As part of our continuing expansion programme, we are looking for a dynamic and driven Deputy Technical Editor to assume responsibility for maintaining and enhancing the standard of our publications across multiple digital platforms.


We are looking for a highly intelligent, resourceful, and enthusiastic person with a very high level of proficient in written English to join our editorial team. You must have extensive professional aviation experience and knowledge as a pilot and/or as an experienced ATPL theoretical knowledge instructor. You should excel at, and enjoy, working in a small fiercely intelligent team and be able to operate independently using your own initiative. You will be comfortable working under pressure and will be able to successfully balance the conflicting demands of simultaneous challenges whilst maintaining an unfailing attention to detail.

Because this is a permanent position, based in Gloucestershire, this potion would not suit someone awaiting a flying position. The editorial team works closely with the design, marketing, and operations teams, so the ability to work collaborative and build strong colleague relationships is a must.

As Deputy Technical Editor you will report directly to the Editor in Chief and work closely with cross-functional teams to drive the continued excellence of our educational materials. You will play a key role in ensuring the quality and consistency of aviation theoretical training materials used globally by aspiring professional pilots. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of aviation education by working on a range of digital channels, including eBooks, eLearning, and AI-driven platforms.


Primary duties include:

- Content Management: Maintain and enhance the quality and consistency of our content across a wide range of digital channels including books, CBT, AI software, eLearning, classroom teaching slides and question databases using our bespoke content management system

- System Management: Manage the relationship with our publishing software suppliers to ensure the speedy elimination of anomalies and rapid development of new publishing capabilities

- Prepare content, metadata and materials for publication via our digital publishing platform

- Write, commission, and review new technical content

- Contribute to research and development of new products, learning systems and teaching techniques

- Provide editorial and subject matter expertise to support the Editor in Chief, and editorial/support team

- Provide image, animation and video briefs to the media development team

- Manage and improve data management systems and ensure all product data is meticulously managed, safeguarded and regularly audited


- Support development and operation of change management software plus maintain quality assurance of content databases


Essential Skills and Attributes:Technical Expertise:

- Hold or have held an ATPL, CPL/IR or CPL/FI or have extensive ATPL theoretical knowledge as a TKI

- Familiar with ICAO, EASA, and UK CAA regulatory frameworks

- Experience of EASA and/or UK CAA training environment (within 5 years)

- Exceptionally high standard of fluency and competence in spoken and written English

- Experience in data and file management

- Experience in working with and editing complex technical material


Editorial and Digital Skills:

- Strongly proficient in MS 365, including document formatting and collaboration tools

- Knowledge of publishing platforms and digital distribution strategies

- Proficiency and confidence in using MS Teams (video and text) and SharePoint

- Possess good proof-reading skills

- Excellent communication and problem-solving

- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure with good time management

- Demonstrable leadership ability

- Able to work to the very highest standards without supervision

- Develop and maintain positive working relationships

- Passion for education and motivation to improve educational standards

- Unquestionable business ethics and integrity


Desirable Skills:

- Experience in copy editing, technical writing, and publishing skills

- Competence with Adobe products, particularly Illustrator and InDesign

- Experience in next-generation educational design techniques, such as microlearning techniques and gamification

- A keen interest in aerospace and STEM.
