Since 1978, CQR has been manufacturing specialist cables & ancillary devices for intruder alarm systems.
Our product platform has undergone significant expansion in 2022, with the acquisition of leading Access Control specialist brand Securefast.
In 2024, CQR bring to market two sub brands to compliment our existing intruder and cable offering in Deedlock & Securefast, offering our customers new possibilities within Access Control & Mechanical Solutions.

Our new Product Development Engineer will join a business with significant market experience and a brand with a reputation for quality, with appetite to grow and develop both in the UK & Export markets. Over the next 5 years CQR has an aggressive growth strategy to redefine and expand our product verticals, challenging the current market with new levels of innovation.

Product Development Engineer – Access Control & Mechanical Hardware
The Product Development Engineer position will be responsible for delivery and execution of their allocated projects from our new product development (NPD) roadmap. The successful candidate will be managing allocated projects from concept to delivery, supported by the team and project management software tools to bring their allocated projects to market.
You will be working with our suppliers, customers, and internal teams to ensure the delivery of product introductions in your product area. As an experienced installer of Access Control products, you will use your practical knowledge to help enhance our product range, making the product easier, simpler, and better to install than anything else in the market. You will be driving how products should be designed, how they should operate and look from your engineer perspective. Across the role you will be working with electronics engineers, designers, standards / product approvals and marketing colleagues to bring your products to life and make your ideas and requests a reality.
The successful candidate will be customer and supplier facing, with time at the factory, customer, and our product installers and end users to constantly evolve your thought process and ideas to keep improving the products. You will be supported by a business with 46 years of experience in the market to bring products to market. The ideal candidate will be the person who wants to make the best product for the installer.
This role will report to our Product & Marketing Director, and you will be a part of a team of 5, dedicated to developing the product and marketing direction for CQR. The Product Development Engineer will also be working closely with both our manufacturing and assembly facility on the Wirral, England and our global supply chain partners to build relationships and help identify opportunities for further development. You will work to understand market segmentation, dynamics, and the key technologies in the field.
Key Responsibilities
· Ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of your category NPD roadmap.
· Train and support our business units and customers with new product line introductions.
· Manage third party suppliers’ delivery on project milestones and product testing.
· Work with our technical manager to ensure product compliance to the relevant standards.
· Provide clear communication to the wider business units on project steps and management.
· Drive and identify opportunities for cost down and product innovation in your category.
· Know the market: Identify emerging trends, opportunities and potential product enhancements.
The right person:
· Experienced Access Control installer both at regional and national level, with experience working on small to
larger commercial, healthcare and government infrastructure sites.
· End user focussed mindset on product usability and improvements.
· Technically minded, experience installing Access Control / Intruder Alarms / Mechanical hardware.
· A track record of experience working in the access control / mechanical hardware or the intruder market.
· Excellent communicator, clear and concise when communicating verbally or in writing.
· Naturally wishes to challenge and understand the situation, look for ways to improve.
· Wants to re-build a product, strip it to its component parts and build It back together.
· Ready to challenge the status quo of how a product should be and how it could be made.
