BACKGROUND

The company design, develop and manufacture a range of systems, subsystems and complex componentry that are used in a wide range of applications including semiconductor electronics, telecoms, optical devices, ruggedised systems and switches.

The innovation they utilise in design and production as well as their future product mapping sets them aside as from other similar organisations. Couple this with a planned expansion based on orders won and a reputation for problem solution solving sets them at the forefront of technology within their field.

Due to expansion a requirement for the above role has materialised.

ROLE

The role purpose is to ensure the design, development, testing (leading to production) operate effectively, to deadlines and industry required standards through hand on project and development skills and through the management of the team

In house design and development allows a fast flexible response to customer needs and a fully equipped test facility (on premises) creates a process that is geared to being an industry leading solutions provider.

A typical project would consist of a requirement coming in from sales to the design team. The design team with develop drawings (Creo) for a prototype. Then you will liaise with design understanding the materials required to develop and produce the prototype. The project will then run from the design, development test and manufacture of the prototype right through to delivery to the customer.

If the prototype is accepted then this is then handed over to manufacturing for mass production, if there is redesign required then this is fed back into the development phase and the process is repeated until customer acceptance and thus to manufacturing, most of this work is mechanical/material based

A very significant percentage of the role will be product development engineering and you will be running your own projects, making sure the projects are run effectively, to deadlines and adhere to the required standards

You will also champion and lead the company’s future products technology road map to ensure the groups solutions stay at the forefront of industry, developing testing new product to guarantee keeping their market position.

Additionally, the role will require the successful candidate to manage the development teams consisting of technicians, test and development engineers, mentoring them and creating an environment where project deadlines are met, and product developed to the correct quality standards.

As well as the above a strong and effective communication channel up and down must be maintained, particularly with manufacturing and top management conveying progress on the various projects, the team, and future programmes.

PERSON

· You will require a significant amount of experience which will include a large amount of product development and or prototype development (such as development engineering, test engineering etc) and strong exposure to mechanical testing, materials or fibre optic development, sensors, probes or, semi-conductor products.

Supervise / Manage, coach, and support a team - design, development, test, and process engineers and technicians

Coordinate your team to ensure all project timelines and budgets are met

Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, and sales for new product delivery

Project management skills

Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Solid communication skills

Sense of urgency and multi-tasking capability
