Shipping Finance Counsel

SSQ is proud to partner with a leading international shipping company in a search for a Legal Counsel to join their sale and purchase department. This is a rare opportunity to join an impressive team of legal and investment professionals responsible for vessel acquisition, newbuildings and sales of vessels within the fleet. The role will involve assisting the wider legal function on a broad range of corporate functions.
The Role:
Reviewing, drafting and arranging execution of all contracts and other documentation required in connection with transactions for the sale/ purchase of a vessel.
Advising on and facilitating the opening of escrow arrangements, including liaising with external counsel as appropriate.
Monitoring and advising on regulatory changes in relation to Flag State rules, UK Tonnage Tax rules and applicable laws for vessel recycling.
Participating in the Sale & Purchase department’s growth with input and ideas for development initiatives.
Necessary Experience:
- Qualified Solicitor with 2-5 PQE in a City law firm or top in-house team.
- Previous experience in sale & purchase transactions as part of an asset/ ship finance team.
- An understanding of the difference in vessel types, flag states, classification and commercial variables in shipping.
