Arts Casemaking Technician

Momart has a vacancy for a full-time, permanent position in the Packing and Casemaking Department. Reporting to the Packing Manager, you will be involved in the various aspects of handling and shipping fragile works of art, including operation of workshop plant and machinery, fabrication, wrapping, packing, and completion of operational paperwork.
The full job description covers all associated skills, previous experience, and any qualifications that applicants are expected to have.
The ideal candidate will be a team worker with practical skills (for example, carpentry), a flexible attitude and keen sense of responsibility.
Awareness of Health & Safety procedures essential, some experience/knowledge of the art industry an advantage.
Key Tasks
•\tSafe handling of works utilising lifting equipment appropriate to the task.
•\tFabrication and preparation of packing systems, linings and wraps.
•\tOperation of plant and machinery within workshop in accordance with Momart’s training and operation procedures.
•\tExecuting tasks in an expedient and timely manner
•\tManual handling of a range of objects, some of which may be heavy.
•\tWrap and pack fragile art objects (intensive training given).
•\tCompletion of operational paperwork.
•\tAssess and record condition of artworks.
•\tFollowing procedures as required by company security policy.
•\tCommunicate with job planners and co-ordinators as necessary.
•\tTake responsibility for informing supervisors of stock levels.
•\tKeeping the workshop environment safe and tidy.
•\tWork closely with other technicians, sharing skills and knowledge in a pro-active way.
•\tFollow Health & Safety procedures according to company policy, in line with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Skills & Personal Qualities
· Flexible individual – hours of work may vary according to business needs.
· Able to work closely with other technicians.
· An understanding of the fragility and importance of the items being handled.
· An approachable communicator who is comfortable with dealing with all levels of the public
· Conscientious individual who is positive, motivated, vigilant, and responsible.
· Demonstrates a good understanding of Momart’s security programme and their role in it.
