Children’s Editor – illustrated publishing


Post Wave Publishing is a leading Chinese publisher of adult and children’s titles, both originated and translated. We have recently established a UK subsidiary to originate and publish children’s books in the English Language. We are seeking a children’s book editor to support our new editorial team, based in our London office.


The successful candidate will act as editorial lead on designated children’s illustrated books, and provide editorial support to others, helping to ensure that all titles are accurate, consistent, and delivered on schedule.



Role/responsibilities:

  • Acting as editorial lead on designated titles as the list requires, working closely with design at all stages
  • Working as part of the creative editorial/design team, having regular and ongoing input into creative process
  • Reading and reporting on new proposals and researching competition
  • Providing author, illustrator, and agent care of the highest standard and liaising with freelancers
  • Developing and managing schedules for all books to effectively progress titles through the creative and production stages
  • Ensuring that schedules and budgets are met, communicating changes as necessary
  • Delivering edited manuscripts, including comments on roughs and finished layouts
  • Providing effective and timely advance material for Sales teams (UK and International)
  • Setting up and maintaining titles on databases, running title costings and liaising with production
  • A desire to contribute to the future list


Skills required:

  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • Excellent proofreading skills and an eye for detail
  • Good understanding of the design and illustration process
  • Ability to work with Word and Excel, Indesign and Photoshop
  • Highly organised and efficient
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to quickly build effective and positive working relationships
  • A clear and effective communicator, in writing and verbally


This role reports to the Publisher and will be based at our central London offices, hybrid working of three days in the office. Fluency in Mandarin is welcomed, but not essential. Please send your application and CV to: emmablackburn@hinabook.com
