Role Description


The role will be to join our desk of experienced commodity traders as a junior oil products trader and risk analyst. This will mean initially reporting the risk and PnL for the desk, while gaining experience in crude oil and refined product trading. Within the first year the candidate can expect to be trading these markets alongside ownership of risk and PnL reporting.


This is an ideal opportunity to begin a career in the energy sector, with a focus on the global oil markets. You will be challenged to develop your analytical and commercial skills working alongside, and gaining knowledge from, our experienced team of commodity traders. You will be encouraged to contribute to the growth of our business, to take on a range of challenges, and to support the development of new ideas and commercial opportunities.


We are looking for a highly analytical, confident, agile thinker with strong numerical ability, and a genuine interest for the commodity markets. In particular, we are in search of someone with the ability to analyse macroeconomic trends, geopolitical events, and regulation changes that will impact global and regional flow of energy products, the associated shipping, and other markets. You will be provided with comprehensive training to develop a foundation of knowledge in market fundamentals whilst supporting the team with risk management activities and market analysis.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the traditional and renewable fuels markets, with a focus on crude oil and refined product markets, such as jet fuel, SAF, and gasoline
  • Monitor commodity trade flows and macro-economic events to support the commercial decision making of the trading teams and contribute to the development of trading strategies
  • Identify market pricing trends and monitor product forward curves, past and present
  • Perform research and market analysis to identify trade opportunities
  • Monitor and report developments in the energy markets, changes in regulation and government policies
  • Compile daily P&L reports and execute risk management activities
  • Assist with deal execution and trade reporting


Education and Experience:

  • Graduate with an excellent academic record in any discipline
  • Strong quantitative and analytical ability
  • Programming skills desirable
  • Relevant placement or work experience in commodities/energy advantageous
  • A broad knowledge of, and interest in, the energy industry, shipping, renewable energy, global commodity flows, sustainability, geopolitical issues, climate change is essential
