What you can expect as a SQL Database Administrator:

  • Permanent full-time contract

As our new SQL Database Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining, securing and operating databases and ensuring all data is correctly stored and retrieved. You must have a strong understanding of both technical and business needs and work closely with developers to design and implement new features and troubleshoot any issues. You need to be confident in checking and challenging any risk you may identify at any point in the process, and ensure you are prioritising your work effectively. To excel within this role, you will need to be adaptable, tenacious, and organised.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administration of all SQL Server Databases from 2016 to 2022 on both Standard and Enterprise
  • Understanding of Clustering and how a SQL instance works in a cluster
  • Knowledge of Availability Groups including their different modes
  • A good foundation in SQL Replication and understanding on how it works in an Availability Group
  • An expert understanding of the different kinds of Backups that can be used on a SQL Database and insuring they match the company security policies
  • Database maintenance tasks
  • Pro-active monitoring to optimize performance and understanding of the tools available
  • Troubleshoot Major incidents to either rule in or rule out the Database
  • Provide on call support outside of working hours (an extra stipulation applies)
  • Maintain and test Disaster Recovery processes and procedures documentation and running of DR Sessions
  • Ensure that SQL Server security and database activity monitoring
  • Efficient management of SQL related incidents and requests via service management software
  • Support I.T and Security Audits e.g. SOX, ISO27001 etc
  • Understanding of tickets and CR’s and what approval needs to take place
  • Ability to read complex SQL Statements
  • A good understanding of indexes

  • Minimum 2 years SQL Server Experience
  • Basic knowledge of Windows Server System Administration
  • SQL Server (2016 – 2022)
  • SQL Server Clustering
  • SQL Server Replication Availability Groups
  • SQL Server Security
  • Good understanding of SSRS and SSIS
  • Ability to review and analyse complex stored procedures
  • Database Design & Development
  • SQL Server performance tuning and optimization
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work under own initiative / under pressure
  • Good understanding of business practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills
