General description:
This is a commissioning role for someone with excellent creative vision, commercial awareness and management skills, as well as experience in illustrated co-edition publishing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify potential book projects that align with the publishing goals and target audience of the company.
- Commission and manage a publishing list for the adult colour-illustrated market in the areas of music, film, entertainment and graphic novels.
- Negotiate acquisition deals and contracts.
- Process titles from commission to publication, to schedule and within budget.
- Liaise with all inhouse departments including production, sales, design, legal and marketing and publicity.
- Create and manage a reissue backlist programme for the list.
- Collaborate closely with, and brief, authors, illustrators, designers and all freelancers.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market demands and competitor activity.
- Identify new opportunities and anticipate changes.
Essential requirements:
- Proven experience in commissioning for a minimum of 4 years.
- Experience in publishing into the genres of music, film and entertainment.
- An excellent understanding of co-ed colour-illustrated publishing.
- Creative flair combined with a strong commercial understanding.
- Fluency with basic software (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and proficiency in Indesign.
