Lead Project Engineer - Chassis Design

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Project Engineer – Chassis Design, to join a leading Motorcycle brand in their state-of-the-art Technology Centre in Leicestershire.

Role Summary

You will lead a small team focused on specific projects and components, helping to shape the future product programme. We are looking for people with experience of defining major components, assemblies and systems from concept to production, ensuring fulfilment of product attributes and requirements against targets.

Candidates should be able to apply design and development experience throughout the projects and manage the workload and technical development of a small group of engineers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage the key aspects of new model development such as ABS, bodywork, wheels etc.
  • Lead and co-ordinate major vehicle development and testing activities.
  • Manage a small team (1-3 people) of Design Engineers.
  • Plan and oversee the delivery of many major chassis subassemblies systems within the requirements of the company’s New Product Introduction (NPI) system.
  • Design systems and components for new and updated chassis projects, considering function, cost, manufacture, assembly and quality.
  • Produce good quality 3D CAD models using Pro-Engineer.
  • Produce good quality 2D engineering drawings.
  • Follow and help maintain design, operational and quality procedures.
  • Produce supporting documentation for designs.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality and Assembly.
  • Liaise with external international suppliers.
  • Manage time and workload effectively.
  • Represent the design team department in cross-functional meetings.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience of managing a team within a design studio environment and leading a Digital Project
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of automotive/motorcycle design and engineering
  • Design Industry expertise
  • Coaching, reviewing and delegating work to a team
  • A strong communicator and able to work with cross functional teams to deliver projects
  • Have strong attention to detailwith the ability to work to deadlines
  • Confident to challenge ideas in a positive way
  • Flexible and agile approach, embracing changes that arise

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

  • BEng/MEng Degree in Automotive Design or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar role in automotive /mass production environment
  • Demonstrable experience in engineering design of components and sub- assemblies
  • Extensive experience in all stages of the automotive design process from conception to production in automotive production
  • Working knowledge of automotive and whole vehicle programmes
  • Proficient in 3D CAD including Pro-Engineer / Creo skills
  • Strong experience of creating and releasing 2D technical drawings and understands geometric tolerances
  • Thorough understanding of Motorcycle chassis layout and construction, design & amp development
  • Some knowledge of regulatory motorcycle requirements is preferred
