Elevate is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Property Disputes Solicitor (Investigation Lead) to join our customers legal team for an interim 6-to-12-month contract position starting ASAP. A visit to the Reading office once a week or fortnight is required.

This role is expected to be highly beneficial for the companys growth. The role involves managing the Incident Investigation team and providing services to the SHE team and other relevant departments within the company. To lead and support the Customer in Health and Safety Law, Property Law, and litigation.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Lawyer in England in Wales or Scotland with 4PQE+
  • Experience of operating at a similar level.
  • Experience of providing legal services/expertise on a wide range of topics across the function
  • Understanding of customer’s statutory powers and licence, internal governance and financial covenant package; and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • A dedicated and effective team player, passionate and energized about the legal team vision and committed to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Skilled and credible in presenting to internal and external stakeholders both verbally and in writing
  • Strong negotiating skills and resolution skills, has ability to deliver pragmatic commercial solutions to the wider business on complex issues
  • An ability to develop members of the team through effective coaching and mentoring

Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with the legal team across the Group and enhance ways of working.
  • Manage relationships with the external legal panel and conduct periodic panel reviews to ensure external panel firms are aligned to strategic business objectives, provide an effective service and value for money.
  • Lead the Incident Investigation team acting as an effective conduit between the external firm and the SHE team and any other internal department required to assist with the investigation.
  • Responsible for providing pragmatic and accurate legal advice on all aspects of property litigation in order to minimise the financial and legal risks to Customer.
  • Work collaboratively with the Customer Depots and across Networks to improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Review, draft and participate/lead in the development and production of new procedures, standard form letters and contracts with a view to ensuring that customer’s licence obligations, to operate the gas distribution networks, are complied with and that customer’s new unregulated business is effective and protected.
  • Ensure that the provision of legal services is in accordance with customer’s statutory powers and licence, internal governance and financial covenant package and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure legal services are delivered to professional, ethical and quality standard.
  • Drive transformation priorities across the team and wider group by developing processes and documentation that ensure legal services as a function is more efficient and effective.
  • Liaise with finance and insurance to ensure that financial risks are properly notified and reserved.
