The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) is a powerful voice for the UK’s vibrant, resilient and diverse food and drink manufacturing industry, the largest manufacturing sector in the country.

We bring together businesses, government and stakeholders to ensure our manufacturers have the right conditions to grow, invest and employ, while continuing to produce high quality, nutritious and affordable food and drink.

This Sector Regulatory Executive role is part of the Associations and Sector Groups team, which sits in the broader Regulation and Science team.

The role works with several smaller sector trade associations who form part of FDF – including being the lead support for the Federation of Bakers. As a Sector Regulatory Executive, you will be keeping the associations up to date across a broad range of policy and regulatory developments and will be working closely with our policy experts across a range of food safety topics- for example Food Contact Materials, Microbiology, Residues and Contaminants - as well as keeping an overview of a range of broader policies like trade. You will work with technical experts in food manufacturing companies and need to confidently liaise with government officials and a wider range of stakeholders both in the UK and EU.

Key responsibilities for the Sector Regulatory Executive

  • Monitoring and analysis of scientific, regulatory and policy developments in defined technical areas across GB, EU and Codex Alimentarius, with a food safety focus
  • Providing written summaries of regulatory changes as well as verbal updates to small groups of companies
  • Extensive liaison including with FDF regulatory and policy colleagues, government officials, European Associations
  • Providing Secretariat support for several committees, both technical and Board level, including preparing agendas, papers and minutes
  • Working alongside the Sector Regulatory Manager, as well as relevant Association’s Chief Executives and Chairs
  • Creating website content, including policy briefings, magazine articles and microblogs

Requirements for the Sector Regulatory Executive

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in food science or another relevant discipline
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrable ability to produce accurate written summaries of scientific and regulatory information
  • Experience in food industry, regulatory authority, trade association or similar organisation is desirable
  • Experience of food safety and/or regulatory policy development is desirable
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work across wide range of issues, managing multiple deadlines
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships within companies and with key external stakeholders at a range of seniorities
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, including previous experience of providing secretariat to committee meetings
  • Responsible self-starter but also a highly motivated team player
  • The role will include attending external meetings and some travel to European meetings
