Job Description

As VividQ closes another round of institutional funding, we are opening up an exciting opportunity for an Optical Physicist to join the team. The successful applicant will join an already world-leading team of specialists, and will play a critical part in seeing VividQ achieve success in its ambitious technical roadmap.

The Optical Physicist will work on projects including hardware design and prototyping, algorithms for hologram generation, and research work aimed at enhancing our IP portfolio.

You will be expected to work both independently and with multiple team members during technology development. The successful candidate will likely have a strong background in waveguide design and manufacture, optical simulation and design, photonics, and the design of laboratory experiments for the characterisation of imaging systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing optical waveguides and managing their manufacture
  • Designing optical systems in Zemax
  • Constructing hardware prototypes
  • Hardware design projects with suppliers and customers
  • Contributing to technical roadmap and IP portfolio within your field

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • A degree in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or another relevant discipline
  • Experience in optical design and hardware prototyping
  • A strong understanding of optical imaging systems, and both geometric and diffractive optics (practical and theoretical)
  • Experience of waveguide design & prototyping in an industrial setting
  • Good communication skills & the ability to work well in a self-organising team

Desirable:

  • A PhD qualification
  • Ability to use Python+Scipy, and/or C/C++/CUDA for simulation and scientific data analysis
  • Experience in modelling diffractive optics
  • Experience of manufacturing process of optical hardware
  • Experience of using spatial light modulators (e.g. LCoS, DLP)
  • An understanding of liquid crystal optical devices
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a drive to deliver promptly
  • Experience of writing patent proposals
