To support the continued growth and innovation within the business, we are now actively looking to recruit a Product Design Engineer to join our Design & Innovation team at Fathom3.

Key Deliverables:

  • Design innovative and effective solutions to a range of problems and opportunities in new product development projects.
  • Operate effectively and efficiently as a team player in a multi-disciplinary and dynamic product development team.
  • Bring energy, ambition and a desire to develop personally and add value in all that you do.

How you can help us:

  • Join a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, working closely with other designers, researchers, engineers and product managers.
  • Apply your design and problem solving skills to deliver innovative product solutions and experiences that challenge the norm and exceed customer expectations.
  • Deliver compelling aesthetic designs that align with the business’ brand language.
  • Communicate ideas quickly and effectively showing proficiency in a combination of sketching, CAD, and visual presentations.
  • Work closely with the FEA team where appropriate to evaluate and iterate engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with the prototyping and test team to design and build prototypes to demonstrate and evaluate ideas.
  • Establish component tolerances in accordance with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with senior team members, providing crucial support to ensure timely and successful project deliveries.
  • Research and identify optimal materials for design projects, considering factors such as functionality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate closely within multi-disciplinary teams to leverage diverse expertise, foster efficient communication, and enhance cross-functional synergy.
  • Participate in the company’s tooling processes to facilitate DFM or component trials (may require overseas travel to the Far East).
  • Drive excellence, collaboration and pioneering spirit and posses a growth mindset.

What we would like you to bring to our team:

Must-haves:

  • A degree in Product Design or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ experience in product design.
  • Experience in designing plastic components, injection moulding and extrusion.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Track record of achieving deadlines.
  • Autodesk Inventor or alternate 3D CAD software.
  • Detail-oriented, focussed on excellence
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment.

Nice to haves:

  • Understanding and appreciation of Mechanical Design.
  • Experience in collaborating with universities.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator.
  • Understanding the uses of FEA.
  • Ability to perform complex tolerance analysis.
