My client an established manufacturing business based in Preston are currently looking to recruit an experienced Head of Engineering to join their business.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading and managing all technical aspects of the Engineering function, including Maintenance, Facilities and CAPEX/OPEX projects, ensuring plant, machinery and associated systems are operating efficiently and are maintained to agreed levels. You will also be responsible for identifying all project requirements, identifying risks and ensuring projects are delivered on time, in budget and in line with H&S requirements.
Head of Engineering – Key Responsibilities
- Overall management of the site Maintenance Engineering Team, ensuring effective maintenance plans are implemented and executed to ensure ongoing reliability and effectiveness of all plant equipment and machinery
- Determine and implement key milestones and Key Performance Indicators to monitor and measure departmental performance
- The upkeep and maintenance of the site facilities, including buildings and grounds
- Management of machinery overhauls – Define, plan, communicate and complete
- The preparation and drafting of design or technical specifications for new machinery, processes or ancillary systems, working with all key stakeholders to ensure the most suitable equipment is procured to provide the most cost-effective solution
- Identify and communicate with suppliers for parts or services required for CAPEX and OPEX projects to gain 1st stage quotations using a formal request that defines each project scope and any required design specifications
- Project and Budgetary control for CAPEX and OPEX projects assigned in your area of responsibility, including investment applications, purchase orders and invoicing confirmation as required
- Provide support to the purchasing department to allow them to achieve accurate quotations, attending meetings with purchasing, contractors or potential suppliers as required
- Ensure Senior Management and Directors are provided regular updates on all aspects of CAPEX / OPEX projects
- Support and provide as required all continuous Improvement projects
- Provide technical engineering support as and when required
- Ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees and sub-contractors working under your control at all times
Head of Engineering – Essential Requirements
- Educated to a minimum Degree Level in an appropriate Engineering discipline
- Additional qualifications in Project Management, OPEX and/or Management highly desirable
- Extensive Maintenance Engineering experience within an Industrial Manufacturing environment and the ability to manage multi-disciplinary Engineering and Project Management teams
- Extensive experience of identifying, scoping and delivering CAPEX and OPEX projects
- Strong knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence tools and methodologies with the ability to drive “Best Practice” and “World Class Manufacturing”
- Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, ideally holding relevant qualifications in this area
