About the Senior Medical Writer role:

The role will draw on your experience in medical communications and scientific expertise to develop and deliver communications and educational materials of the highest quality to our clients. Reporting to one of our Principle Medical Writers, you will have the opportunity to grow within help the editorial team through structured coaching and timely mentoring. You will be an important player in developing and building relationships with clients and be a valued partner in those client-facing activities

Role Overview

As a Senior Medical Writer, you will be responsible for leading the writing and development of a wide range of materials aimed at diverse audiences and across a wide range of therapy areas and specialisms. You will need to collaborate closely with the creative/design and client services teams, ensure maintenance of the company’s high standards and support the development of more junior writers. Our client are able to accommodate remote working (but would like you in the office 1 day a week if possible, they are in Letchworth Hertfordshire)


Senior Medical Writer Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Produce clear, concise and accurate copy to the highest scientific and grammatical standards, ensuring materials produced are suitable for the target audience and conform to client specifications
  • Research and source relevant materials, analyse and interpret scientific data, and structure an appropriate deliverable
  • Demonstrate good attention to detail and apply internal processes consistently
  • Proactively manage and monitor own workload and that of other writers assigned to projects where necessary
  • Highlight potential issues with budget/project progression to Account Handler, and issues with resourcing to Editorial Lead
  • Provide effective briefs to peers in editorial and studio teams and to freelancers
  • Monitor work through studio, providing constructive feedback on design concepts, layout, content and branding
  • Support Client Services team with proposals and budgets as appropriate and guide accurate estimation of writing time
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients regarding project content. Highlight new/repeat business opportunities to Client Services and attend and present at client meetings if required
  • Act as lead writer, with minimal coaching from a more senior writer. Review and be accountable for work by other writers assigned to the same projects
  • Critically assess own work and receive constructive feedback from colleagues. Provide support and guidance to other writers
  • Seek out learning and development opportunities to improve in-role performance and demonstrate drive to continuously grow.


Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in life science or medical subject (2:1 or above)
  • Experience writing for a broad range of projects across multiple therapy areas
  • Ability to apply information on any therapy area with minimal guidance
  • Good awareness of industry guidelines and best practice and their application
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines

· Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat and a variety of additional software and on-line resources: Zinc; Referencing databases; PubMed; Web Science; clinicaltrials.gov; as well as EMA and FDA websites
