Locogen are looking for an Ecology Consultant with Ornithology and renewable energy experience to join our growing Environment Team.

Locogen’s vision is a world powered 100% by renewables; where everyone has access to affordable, sustainable energy and clean air. We’re a multidisciplinary renewable energy company; offering our clients consultancy, design, development, build and management of renewable assets. Our work is innovative and varied including projects from community and local energy level to utility scale across Wind, Solar PV, Hydro, Battery Storage (BESS) and Hydrogen.

Our Environment Team is primarily made up of ecologists, hydrologists and environmental consultants. We provide ecological & environmental services and assessment for renewable developments. We are predominantly working on utility scale onshore wind and solar projects. This is a mostly desk-based role with a small amount of time on onsite visits.

Who would be a good fit?

  • Someone with experience of undertaking ornithological assessments including: Ornithological Impact Assessments, Collision Risk Modelling (CRM), Territory Analysis and Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA).

  • Someone with an understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations.
  • Someone with an understanding of UK-Hab survey methodology, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and the Statutory Biodiversity Metric.
  • Someone with an understanding of the role of an Ecological or Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW & EnvCoW).
  • A good communicator who would be comfortable talking with clients, stakeholders and contractors when needed.
  • Someone who likes to take ownership and responsibility for things.

We are not corporate, it’s a friendly environment where we all collaborate, support and learn from each other. So, if you like to have fun and enjoy your work you will fit right in here.

Here are some beneficial but not essential skills:

  • GIS skills – particularly in QGIS & CAD software.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or similar.
  • Schedule 1 License, or another license, in Scotland or England.
  • A current Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card
  • Knowledge of Ornithology for Onshore Wind.
  • A working knowledge of Bat Assessment for Onshore Wind projects. particularly any experience of bat call analysis with the software Kaleidoscope from Wildlife Acoustics

Please don’t worry if you don’t have these skills or licenses already - as long as you are someone who likes to learn we can definitely teach you what you need to know.

What does the day to day look like?

Our work is varied but here are some of the things you might find yourself doing:

  • Management of ecological and ornithological projects.
  • Reviewing and analysing ornithological & ecological datasets.
  • Drafting EcIAs, ornithological reports and reports to inform HRAs.
  • Liaising with clients and a variety of stakeholders across multiple projects.
  • Manage a team of sub-contractor surveyors across the breadth of the UK.
  • Health & Safety management – drafting of Risk Assessments & Methods Statements (RAMS) and implementing safe working procedures on our sites.
