The experience expected from applicants, as well as additional skills and qualifications needed for this job are listed below.

Location: White City, London, UK.

Compensation: £45-65,000 plus health insurance and free lunch

Closing date: June 7th, 2024.

Start date: July 1st, 2024, or before.

Company: Esox Biologics is a bio-tech company ensuring food security by improving the efficiency of aquaculture. We do this by preventing the spread of infectious diseases among aquatic animals. Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector yet aquatic veterinary medicine lacks innovative tools to detect and prevent the spread of aquatic pathogens. With more than ninety percent of aquatic microorganisms uncharacterised and undescribed by science, our Detect platform harnesses metagenomics to resolve this biological dark-matter and improve pathogen detection and prevention efforts for global aquaculture.

Role: We are hiring a Data Engineer to join our Detect team. Our Detect platform enables clients to identify total microbiomes sampled from livestock and the environment surrounding their farms. This data is pivotal in advancing our understanding and management of aquatic ecosystems. Our metagenomics pipelines produce significant quantities of DNA data and accompanying sample metadata. You’ll play a central role in supporting the growth of our company by designing and building the infrastructure necessary to securely store, manage and interact with the data that we collect.

Team: Esox Biologics is tight-knit and highly collaborative team of scientists, engineers and communicators with a passion for translating innovative technologies into real-world solutions. Backed by private equity and generating revenue through our initial products, Esox Biologics is set to establish its position within aquatic veterinary medicine sector by transforming existing knowledge of aquatic microbiomes.

Responsibilities.

·       Data architecture: You will lead the initiative to build cloud-based infrastructure enabling the secure and cost-effective monitoring, storage and interaction with our datasets, ensuring date integrity.

·       Data accessibility: You will ensure data is accessible by internal team members and clients via their web app portal.

·       Collaboration with Bioinformatics: Work in close collaboration with the bioinformatics team to ensure the web app accurately presents and allows interaction with the data produced. This collaboration will be key to the successful integration of complex data sets into the platform.

·    Strategic Contribution to New Product Features: Actively contribute to the strategic planning and development of new product features, overseeing the journey from conceptualization to launch. This encompasses both leading innovative initiatives and enhancing existing functionalities to align with strategic business goals.

Requirements.

·       Essential - Strong foundation in database design for structured and unstructured data.

·   Essential - Excellent problem-solving skills, with a capacity for creative and innovative thinking in a collaborative research and development environment.

·      Essential - Strong Independent Work Ethic: As the Data Engineer on our team, you will be the linchpin in the development and enhancement of our database, requiring a self-motivated individual who thrives in an autonomous role.
