We are seeking an enthusiastic Gallery Assistant to join our dedicated team. If you love art, want to contribute to the cultural life of your community, want to meet like-minded people or broaden your skills and knowledge, then working with us could be for you. 

Responsibilities:

  • Invigilating all gallery spaces - ensuring that the security of the art works are not
  • compromised.
  • Providing excellent and pro-active customer service.
  • Providing visitors with information about the current exhibition and all aspects of Newlands House Gallery including the building and facilities, forthcoming exhibitions, events and activities, membership and information about the local area (training will be given).
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations both in the Gallery and at off-site exhibition spaces, being aware of disability and access requirements, and assisting the public in evacuation situations in accordance with a thorough knowledge of evacuation procedures (training will be provided).
  • Informing the Duty Manager immediately in the event of damage to the building or to any artwork, in the instance of any health and safety or security issues arising, and of any other emergencies that may occur.
  • Undertaking training and attending meetings as appropriate and providing feedback and comments to maintain the high standard and assist with the continuous improvement of services.
  • Helping with basic set up of events, private views or gallery hires.
  • Assisting with the opening and closing of the Gallery if necessary.
  • Dealing with collections and deliveries.
  • Assisting in general cleaning and maintenance as required
  • Invigilation and camera monitoring.
  • Managing the incoming telephone lines and incoming/outgoing post and package
  • Processing book orders.
  • Ensuring common areas of the gallery are well-presented.
  • Assisting with condition checking and environmental reporting.
  • Maintaining office and event supplies.
  • Assisting with exhibition and event logistics and installations
  • Coordinating with staff on operations.
  • Ongoing operational and administrative assistance.
  • Digital duties will include assisting with updating website, 3rd party platforms and other. channels. 
  • The Gallery Invigilator role can be physically demanding as the building is set on two floors with over 7,500 sq feet of space. As well as standing for periods of time you may be asked to help lift and carry equipment during event set ups.
