Trainee Livestock Buyer

An exciting opportunity awaits someone with an agricultural background to enter livestock procurement at one of the UK's leading meat producers.
As a livestock buyer, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that the abattoir has a sufficient supply of cattle and sheep to meet its orders. Your time will be divided between office work and on-the-road farm visits, where you'll build productive relationships with suppliers.
To succeed in this role, you must be an effective communicator capable of negotiating livestock purchases and fostering strong relationships with suppliers. Additionally, you'll need to be driven, well-organized, and able to meet procurement targets.
To be considered for this position, you must have a strong knowledge of commercial beef and sheep farming. Full training and support will be provided.
The role:
- Build and maintain relationships with farmers and suppliers
- Visit farms/suppliers
- Negotiate purchase prices
- Ensure consistent supply of cattle in line with procurement targets
- Ensure livestock deliveries are on schedule
About you:
- Understand beef/sheep production
- Good communication skills
- Organised and able to work under pressure
- Target driven
- UK driving licence
