Assistant Herdsperson

We have a contract vacancy for someone to support the owners looking after 140 cows near Holsworthy in West Devon.

The farm is run very traditionally with cows calving all year round and grazed in summer and fed silage in bunkers in winter.

Milking is through a 7 aside Swingover parlour with cows housed in cubicles. Significant investment is about to commence with a new 20:40 parlour, new cubicles and feed yard and a new slurry store set to be completed this year. Cow numbers will then creep up to around 170.

The role will be to milk once a day and do the yard work during the other milking. You will assist with all other stock tasks, to include calf rearing, and will occasionally get involved in tractor driving especially during silage making.
