What is the role?

Through our Marine & Engineering Graduate Programmes, you will follow a specialist pathway, where you will work with experts in their discipline, gaining exposure to different disciplines within our Transmission business for the duration of your programme which can last between 12 months and 2 years. The objective of our specialist pathway is to furnish experiences that lead to a permanent position within SSE.

Our Transmission Marine and Engineering teams provide critical support to the development and delivery of the transmission link projects to connect each of Scotland’s major island groups - Shetland, Orkney, and the Western Isles, as well as “boot-strap” connections between North and South of UK mainland, such as the East Coast High-voltage direct current (HVDC) projects.

The Marine Function was established to provide marine operations and construction expertise to the business through the development of the necessary disciplines and centralising multidisciplinary technical expertise from different departments within SSEN Transmission and, in doing so, supporting and overseeing all marine-based activity across a wide portfolio of projects. Expertise within the Marine Function covers Safety, Construction, Installation Engineering, Marine Management, Survey (Geophysical and Geotechnical) and Consenting. We act as the marine subject matter experts across the Transmission business and are establishing ourselves as a competent offshore transmission operator within the Energy Sector.

Throughout the programme you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.

We have ambitious net zero targets, and our business is growing to help us achieve our strategy. We're looking for graduates who can bring fresh ideas, new skills, and creative thinking, to deliver innovative solutions to help us reach net zero. This is an exciting time to join SSE, you have the power to make a change and help us build a better, more sustainable world of energy for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

You’ll have a minimum of a 2:2 BEng in one of the following disciplines; Hydrographic Surveying and Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nautical College, Subsea Engineering, Construction Management, or Naval Architecture.

We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
