DescriptionThe TeamThe Independent Investigations Office (IIO) Outreach team is a small dedicated group led by an Outreach Investigator. The team builds meaningful connections with Indigenous communities marginalized groups police agencies and other partners to deepen understanding of the IIOs mandate. The team works closely with investigators and staff to support culturally respectful practices guided by Indigenous protocols and equity-focused values helping ensure the IIOs work is inclusive thoughtful and community-informed.The RoleThe Indigenous Liaison helps advance the IIOs outreach and engagement goals by building strong respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples communities and groups. It supports IIO investigators and other staff in deepening their understanding of Indigenous cultures and perspectives and ensures these are meaningfully reflected in our investigative work. If you bring lived experience and cultural knowledge this is a powerful opportunity to make a differencefostering trust inclusion and connection in communities across the province.Qualifications:Education and Experience RequirementsDiploma related to Indigenous consultation public administration criminology sociology law or a related field plus 1-year recent and related experience; ORCertificate or coursework in Indigenous consultation public administration criminology sociology law or a related field plus 2 years recent and related experience; ORSecondary School graduation or successful completion of the General Education Development test (GED) plus 3 years recent and related experience; ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations Métis or Inuit).Recent and related experience includes the following:Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and other communities specifically engaging in open dialogue.Experience in developing respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples.Experience in consultation and outreach including developing useful and accessible information.For questions regarding this position please contact.About this Position:This position is based in Surrey.Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.Enhanced Security Screening (ESS) will be required.Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.Working for the BC Public Service:The BC Public Service is committed to creating adiverse workplaceto represent the population we serve and to better meet the needs of our citizens.
