Role Name: Communications & Engagement Manager

Ocean Energy Pathway

Location: UK (Hybrid position, 1 day a week in London required)

About Us: Ocean Energy Pathway (OEP) is a not-for-profit organisation on a mission to accelerate the global clean energy transition by unlocking the immense potential of offshore wind power. We do that by delivering programmes in new markets that build effective collaboration, engage and educate key stakeholders, and offer structured technical assistance to support governments, industry, and civil society to fast-track the deployment of sustainable offshore wind projects. We work closely with industry and civil society organisations across the oceans-climate-energy nexus.

Role Description

We’re looking for a savvy, entrepreneurial communications professional that understands the role of effective storytelling in policy communications. As an organisation with a core mandate to deliver technical assistance primarily to government stakeholders (like reports, research, knowledge exchange) we also understand that policymakers are busy people that need insights quickly.

The Communications Sr. Associate / Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of OEP’s strategic communications, digital marketing and branding, and events delivery. The right candidate is someone who can learn quickly and draw upon key policy ideas to craft communications for diverse audiences. As a key member of our global team, you will collaborate with country teams and external stakeholders to ensure the organisation’s message is clear, consistent, and impactful.

Reports to: You will report to and work closely with the Global Strategy Director, and will interact with the secretariat and country teams on a regular basis.

Preferred Skills / Beneficial Attributes

  • 5+ years experience for Senior Associate and 7+ for Manager, in roles related to communications, marketing, digital media, public relations, events management or production, campaigns, public relations or a related field such as in an NGO or agency.
  • Brilliant writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to various audiences and attention to detail and brand consistency.
  • Strong track record in project management, bridging strategy and execution, and familiar with project management tools such as Monday.com.
  • Able to work independently in a predominantly remote-working environment but available for weekly meetings in London and minor travel internationally.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for working in clean energy is expected, rather than expertise in offshore wind energy, including an understanding of the sustainability, biodiversity, community, and environmental considerations involved in complex infrastructure projects.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Powerpoint, Google Slides, graphic design tools (Canva essential, InDesign and others are useful) and social media platform management tools.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in another language is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of digital media, including social media platforms, website content management systems, and analytics tools.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating advocacy outcomes to determine effectiveness and apply lessons learned to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Experience managing events, both in-person and virtual, including logistics and promotion.
  • Experience working with media, pitching news stories and building effective relationships with journalists and broadcasters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse team spread across different geographies.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage Strategic Communications (50%)

  • With the Strategy Director, design and implement advocacy-aligned communications plans for policy reports and other Technical Assistance outputs at the country and organisational level. This includes branding and dissemination of research insights and policy materials to various audiences, and creating communications objectives for OEP events and external engagements.
  • Collaborate with country teams to identify key stakeholders and channels, plan and execute tailored advocacy and communications strategies, ensuring regional and thematic coherence.
  • Write sharp, engaging copy, including press releases, and collaborate with the team to translate policy materials into communications-oriented products.
  • Coordinate the copyediting and publication of thought leadership and technical pieces in industry journals and magazines.
  • Ensure consistent and compelling messaging that aligns with OEP’s mission, internal to the organisation and externally to our various audiences.

Lead Digital Marketing & Social media (25%)

  • Own the brand, ensuring the team and outputs align to brand guidelines in order to communicate our impact and values, including the management of templates for team-use, and overall quality control for any external communications, especially across our countries.
  • Develop and curate engaging written content for LinkedIn, such as copywriting, creating and scheduling posts to promote new research, updates, or events.
  • Lead the development of visual content, such as using Canva to create relevant visual content that supports communications objectives while maintaining brand consistency, occasionally coordinating with outsourced support.
  • Manage and maintain OEP’s WordPress website, with knowledge of how to update web pages regularly and to improve engagement, including search engine optimization, occasionally working with technical contractors if needed.
  • Leverage project management skills to manage a content calendar, executing deliverables in an organised manner.
  • Monitor trends and leverage social media channels to engage target audiences and enhance visibility of research and advocacy efforts.

Lead Events Design and Production (25%)

  • Design communications plans for the team’s global engagement, such as participation at major summits and events.
  • Support the Country teams on in-country events, ensuring their events represent OEP’s brand and mission and achieve wider strategic advocacy and communications objectives.
  • Lead the design and implementation of OEP’s global events, such as panel events, workshops, webinars, or external-facing gatherings, ensuring OEP maintains a high-quality, trusted, and consistent image.

Benefits & Compensation

  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment
  • Flexible working with a remote-first ethos
  • Competitive salary
  • Professional development opportunities with specific budget allocated towards employee skills and career development
  • Potential for work travel
