(Senior) Polymer Chemist // Nanomedicine // Cambridge


We are seeking a (Senior) Polymer Chemist to join our innovative biotech team in Cambridge, revolutionising drug delivery through cutting-edge nanomedicine technologies. Your expertise will be essential in advancing our research and development, ensuring the synthesis and analysis of high-quality polymers for drug delivery systems.


Responsibilities:


  • Design and Synthesis: Design and synthesise amphiphilic copolymers tailored for nanoparticle formation and drug delivery. Utilise your knowledge to optimise structures and functionalities.
  • Characterisation: Characterise copolymers using a variety of techniques such as NMR, GPC, and HPLC to ensure their quality and performance.
  • Formulation Development: Collaborate with the Formulation, Biology, and Informatics teams to incorporate targeting ligands into synthetic polymer blends.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest research in polymer chemistry and drug delivery. Continuously explore new concepts, techniques, and methodologies to contribute to their R&D activities and IP base.
  • Documentation and Analysis: Meticulously document all experimental procedures, results, and observations. Accurately analyse and interpret data to generate reports for internal and external use.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the chemistry team, cross-functional groups, and external partners to ensure smooth communication of results. Present findings effectively to both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organised workplace. Comply with all regulations and ethical standards in R&D.


Ideal Qualifications:


  • Expertise in Polymer Chemistry: Background in synthesising polymers with expertise in techniques such as RAFT, ATRP, ROP, and Amino-Acid polymerisation.
  • Analytical Techniques: Proficiency in polymer analytical techniques such as NMR, GPC, and HPLC.
  • Experimental Design: Experience in designing, executing, and analysing experimental packages.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrable problem-solving skills with a methodical mindset to both follow and develop novel SOPs/experimental procedures.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex scientific data to both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and independently on specific research tasks.


Preferred Skills:


  • Experience in nanoparticle formation or drug delivery.
  • Previous experience in biodegradable polymer synthesis.
  • Experience in click chemistry.
