The Role Scope

As a Systems Analyst, you will partner closely with the Heads of Function within IT for the analysis of current solutions as well as supporting the non-functional and technical requirements of new projects. For new projects you would work with the Head of Delivery Management and with members of the PMO (including business analysts), to support the work undertaken by IT development and IT operations.

Overall you would be analysing current software, systems and processes as well as project requirements so that they meet the business needs. You will document systems/solutions, and processes and identify requirements to adapt and enhance them, with the aim of improving business efficiency and productivity. You would also review non-functional project requirements to aid solutions design. Having a good understanding of what a solutions architect does would be desirable for the development of this role.

✨Role key responsibilities

  • Review, analyse and document the organisation’s systems and processes to aid understanding
  • Identify system and process problems by conferring with teams; evaluating procedures and processes
  • Be able to quickly learn about the operational details of systems and departments in order to understand processes and system interactions, and recommend appropriate non-functional improvements. Use this understanding to advise on ways to boost productivity, efficiency and accuracy of systems and processes
  • Translate business requirements, with a technical lens, into functional and non-functional specifications and collaborate in the production of design documentation
  • Be able to dig into the details of how a requirement might actually be implemented in code or process, going to a lower more technical level of detail than a standard business analyst
  • Map and document interfaces between systems, both legacy and new.
  • Document DB schemas and data structures, including transitory data.
  • Structure business process models, showing systems interaction.
  • Promote MVP principles to ensure non-functional/systems requirements deliver what the business needs, identifying technical scope creep to minimise spend and maximise benefits
  • Ensure that non-functional requirements such as Security, Scalability, Resilience and Usability are considered as part of business requirements

About You

✨Skill/competency

  • A strong technical and analytical skill set that can support system design with clear insights into current business practices
  • A good understanding of data modelling/structures and event state modelling.
  • Process improvement, six-sigma, lean processing experience; a general interest in the way an organisation’s systems and processes work together and can be improved. Focusing on the systems and data, and working with the business analysts who will focus on the business process.
  • A methodical, investigative and inquisitive mind
  • A logical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent business acumen
  • Excellent communicator, able to comprehend and translate technical or complex issues clearly to meet the competency level of the audience
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage expectations and explain technical detail
  • Assertive and confident with a natural ability to facilitate conflict resolution but make tough decisions when required

Nice to haves

  • Experience of Agile working
  • eCommerce, OMS, CRM/CMS and logistics experience
  • Data warehouse and a knowledge of AI e.g. Big Data (data lakes), Big Query
  • Security and working with an ISMS e.g. GDPR and IASME
  • Using Google Workspace (cloud-based tools that help with productivity and collaboration).
  • Cloud experience (GCP would be ideal).
  • Jira and Confluence experience
  • Experience or an interest in Solutions Architecture (as in the role of a Solutions Architect).
  • The ability to solicit, and define non-functional requirements for infrastructure projects. A decent level of awareness of infrastructure would be very beneficial.
