Venues Duty Manager


Community Central Hall provides a wide range of services to benefit and support the local community including services for both children and adults, and the provision of community activity spaces and event space across two local buildings (304 Community Hall and Woodside Hall). 

Main purpose

We have an exciting new job opportunity for a Venues Duty Manager who will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of property management while delivering exceptional hospitality to clients. The role involves line managing, training, and developing a dynamic team of staff to provide high standard visitor experience, building and facilities management, health & safety, and all commercial operations. 

One of the key goals of the Venues Duty Manager, is to maximise CCH’s income through fundraising, sponsorship, and individual donations. The successful candidate should be creative in their approach, seeking opportunities for the commercial exploitation of the building and identification of potential income streams which exist or could be developed. 

The role is ideal for a highly organised individual with a passion for public interaction and the arts, music, and performance industry. The successful candidate will have initiative, will be a great communicator who possesses strong customer service skills and a creative approach to problem solving with the ability to work on several complex tasks simultaneously whilst remaining calm under pressure.

Main Duties

  • To provide strategic management of the company, providing expert operational input, focusing on the capacity and use of the company’s facilities and Volunteer resources.
  • To provide strategic leadership to increase the net profitability of all existing activity across venue and facilities hires and support to reflect the quality and reputation of Community Central Hall and to maximise income from all commercial activities.
  • Oversea and manage larger daytime and out of hours hires including negotiation of contracts, liaison with external caterers and/or event managers.
  • To provide motivational leadership to the Facilities & Kitchen Teams to be accountable for the effective performance and contribution of all staff and volunteers in each department.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Head of Service to ensure commercial and operational strategies are aligned with our reputation and values.
  • Propose products and pricing models across all commercial activity. Deliver against robust financial targets. Set and effectively manage the commercial budget for Community Central Halls.
  • Provide the highest standards of customer care for all customers, be they internal, or external customers.
  • Be responsible for various projects associated with the successful operational management including staff, security, technical equipment, bars, cellar and catering management.
  • To manage CCH equipment (including computers, sound systems and projection equipment is maintained, and the systems and processes are in place for checking equipment and hirer instruction).
  • To compile and maintain an equipment register (location, venue and condition) for maintenance and compliance.
  • Keep all venue areas clean and tidy and to observe all Health & Safety requirements with particular reference to maintenance and repair of equipment, risk assessments, hygiene, cleanliness and fire safety ensuring due diligence is demonstrated at all times.
  • Ensure all mandatory tests and inspections are carried out in a timely fashion maintaining all appropriate statutory records of the two buildings relating to the safe operations of the premises.
  • To raise income by proactively developing a full range of commercial activities that can be accommodated around the artistic programme and are appropriate.
  • To be CCH Health & Safety Officer, ensuring activities comply with CCH and H&S policies.
  • As CCH Fire Officer, to manage and update CCH Fire Protection policy and procedures including attending fire alarm call outs, out of operational hours as required.
  • The role will require manager to work shifts and weekends depending on the type of event taking place. 

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Demonstrating and/or commercial business
  • Relevant qualification in Events, Hospitality and/or Marketing (or relevant experience)
  • Personal Licence Holder or willing to undertake training.
  • Ideally hold a Health & Safety qualification/s such as NEBOSH
  • NVQ L4 in Spectator Safety

Experience

  • Experience of event management in a similar sector, field, or venue
  • Extensive experience of planning and executing Commercia Events
  • Experience of selling spaces for corporate hire and events
  • Budget/financial management
  • Experience of managing contractors and third-party suppliers
  • A proven track record of increasing profitability of commercial operations and driving sustained growth within a similar environment.
  • Experience of managing contracts bringing optimum performance from the contract through effective joint working whilst ensuring profitability

Knowledge

  • A sound knowledge of Health & Safety at work regulations and best practice; and licensing
  • Experience of managing Health & Safety in an Events setting
  • Commercial and business awareness
  • Experience of working in an arts environment
