Make your mark as a Computer Scientist at Gardline

We have an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Computer Scientist in our busy Engineering Department based Great Yarmouth. As a bright and ambitious individual you will foster strong working relationships across technical functions commercial operations and reporting departments. Your primary responsibility will be to provide acoustic modelling support and contribute to the continuous development of marine acoustic equipment and mitigation functions. This role is critical to Gardlines operations and we are looking for a proactive and passionate scientist to significantly impact the organization and drive future success.

Your responsibilities as a Computer Scientist

  • Software Development: You will be applying your skills and knowledge as a computer scientist to solve and support underwater acoustic based projects. Training in underwater acoustics will be provided where required.
  • Programming: Develop software using a variety of programming languages and techniques including Python Java C or similar.
  • Machine Learning: Develop models using AI and machine learning is desirable.
  • Numerical Modelling: Applying Finite Element Method (FEM) knowledge to solve engineering problems is desirable.
  • Technical Project Management: Manage assigned projects including providing indepth support during sailing as required.
  • Training Support: Assist with providing technical training for software users.
  • Technical Advisory: Advise departmental managers on software/modelling technical capabilities.
  • Equipment Development: Support the continuous development of current marine acoustic equipment.
  • R&D Support: Support R&D to introduce new products into the operational environment which may include sailing for equipment trials.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to and promotion of company QA and HSSE procedures.

Your qualities

You can move ahead as a Computer Scientist if you are;

A proactive and ambitious individual with excellent knowledge of acoustics hardware and software. Your experience is likely to have been gained in a similar role or as a computer scientist or software developer. Ideally you will be educated to BEng/BSc level in a relevant discipline (Computer Science Engineering or similar). Offshore experience and the ability to pass an ENG1 medical and attain relevant offshore certificates is essential. Proficiency in Python MATLAB or similar software packages is essential.
 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • BEng/BSc in relevant discipline (Computer Science Engineering or similar
  • Computer science related degree or academic course (desirable)
  • Use of programming languages (Python Java C).
  • Driving license
