Design Engineer (Defence Sector) OUTSIDE IR35 (LTD) Contract Rates: Negotiable (DOE)5 Month CONTRACT Full-Time On-Site (5 Days/Week) in Swindon, WiltshireThe Opportunity: Immediate Start Required A leading engineering firm in the defence sector is seeking an experiencedDraftsman / Design Engineerfor an immediate, high-impact project focused on critical power and distribution systems within a secure facility. This is a crucial role supporting theESF Facilityproject, requiringfull-time commitment (5 days per week)on-site in Swindon to ensure seamless project delivery and access to sensitive information.Key Requirements & Responsibilities You will be the lead technical contributor for mechanical design elements, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams. Design & Drafting:Produce precise, detailed drawings for complex equipment, includinggenerators and power distribution equipment , utilizingAutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS . Mechanical Design Leadership:Lead and contribute significantly to the mechanical design of systems and their supporting structures, ensuring adherence to strict performance criteria. Project Lifecycle Support:Provide hands-on engineering support throughout the entire project lifecycle, including prototype build, rigorous testing, and qualification phases, promptly resolving design issues and implementing corrective actions. Compliance & Review:Conduct essential design reviews and manage configuration activities, maintaining compliance with relevantMOD and Defence Standardsfor mechanical and power systems. Ideal Candidate Profile The successful candidate will be an established design engineering professional with demonstrably relevant experience in the defence or similarly regulated industry. Experience:Minimum5+ yearsof hands-on design engineering experience, specifically having completed projects involvinggenerators and electrical distribution equipment . Technical Proficiency:Expert-level proficiency in bothAutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS . Defence Sector Knowledge:Proven familiarity withMOD standardsandDefence Standardsrelevant to mechanical and power systems, plus an understanding ofmanufacturing processes for military-grade equipment . Security:Must currentlyhold or be immediately eligibleto obtain entry-level security checks ( BPSS ).
