We are delighted to be representing a forward-thinking, growing business who service the healthcare sector, and are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer with a Mechanical bias and top-notch skills using SolidWorks to join them initially on a 6 month FTC to support their meeting of a critical NPD deadline.

Working collaboratively, you will be managing the full lifecycle of a major NPD project, from inception through to testing and validation.

Reporting into a great manager who is a technical expert, and able to offer progression for the right person, this Senior Design Engineer will be:

  1. Developing new safety critical products for application into a niche healthcare market.
  2. Innovatively managing the design process from start to finish, inclusive of the manufacture of prototypes, components and full systems.
  3. Using a variety of software including daily use of SolidWorks (due to timescales we can only consider candidates with SolidWorks skills).
  4. Using a purpose built workshop within brand new office space to test ideas, create prototypes and demonstrate designs, including a range of lathes, milling machines, saws and other hand tools.
  5. Creatively problem solving using your technical expertise as a qualified, experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, and working collaboratively with your colleagues, supporting their projects where possible.
  6. Managing product testing for pre-released products and altering designs where necessary.
  7. Ensuring products are compliant with all regulations, with the support of the Compliance specialist within the team.
  8. Working to targets.
  9. Producing full product specifications for manufacturing processes.
  10. Ordering materials where needed, or working with suppliers to ensure materials used are of the right quality – predominantly wood and metal.
  11. Accurately managing all documentation, including use of various systems.

The successful Senior Design Engineer will:
  1. Be degree educated as a minimum (or equivalent) in a technical, relevant Engineering capacity.
  2. Not be a job hopper, and will be able to demonstrate significant relevant working experience working for a similar SME.
  3. Use SolidWorks to an advanced level.
  4. Be passionate about ‘hands on’ Engineering, with previous experience using machinery.
  5. Have a portfolio of products brought to market, within a relevant industrial field.
  6. Have worked with metal previously and ideally with wood, with a good understanding of materials.
  7. Be a team player with a good sense of humour
  8. Show willing to be hands-on, creating products beyond the 3D modelling stage, and into the testing stage to then make alterations where necessary.
  9. Communicate effectively.

  1. Experience developing washroom products.
  2. Experience developing products for use within healthcare environments.
