Content Producer, STV News

Scotland’s most-watched news programme, STV News at Six, is looking for a Content Producer to help shape an agenda for Scottish news that is compelling, engaging, and distinct for our regional audiences. The job will centre on producing stories for STV News at Six and across our digital platforms.
The News Content Producer will work primarily on output, supporting our broadcast and digital reporters with high-quality original journalism, and first-class reporting. You will be based in our Glasgow newsroom and working on-location. You will be at the heart of big stories in Scottish news, producing daily output and planning coverage. You will work closely with programme Editors, producers and newsgathering team and have the opportunity to produce the programme when required. You will work alongside a cohort of Content Producers to enhance our newsrooms by embracing a multi-platform approach to news production, development of staff and championing innovative technology.
You will need great ideas and the confidence and resilience to see them through to transmission and publication. You will also have a clear understanding of the big stories within central Scotland and demonstrate experience in producing compelling journalism for TV and digital platforms. You will also ensure programmes represent a plurality of views and voices, and are steadfast in being accurate and impartial
This is a flexible position that is aligned to STV News at 6, associated news bulletins and associated digital output but may also produce content for other programmes including Scotland Tonight and other regional programmes and special projects within the news department when required.
The Role
- Work closely with programme producers and editors to develop compelling journalism
- Support reporters to ensure visibility of story progression and investigation
- Lead coverage of specific stories in central Scotland, including regionally relevant stories
- Produce and plan editorial treatments for news stories for TV and digital platforms
- Location produce, script, and edit quality video and packages
- Deal with breaking stories across all platforms, with a digital-first approach
- Write clear, accurate and accessible content for use across all STV’s platforms
- Participate in forward planning to help ensure a diverse and engaging mix of content is available across platforms
- Work on graphics and with crews to produce visually engaging content
- Work on all associated programmes, newsgathering roles, and bulletins as and when required
Skills and Experience
- First-class journalist with a background in producing news.
- Strong editorial sense and judgement with the ability to research and generate original journalism.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines across a range of media platforms.
- Experience of producing longer form broadcast and online content is desirable.
- Experience of leading coverage of stories
- Effective communication, interpersonal and team working skills to liaise effectively with colleagues.
- A sound knowledge of the law in Scotland as it relates to journalism.
- A clear commitment to the principles of multi-skilling and to a cross-platform approach.
- Experience of Avid Newscutter/Media Composer (or similar) and of self-shooting video in broadcast quality.
- Excellent IT skills with experience of working with CMS and video-publishing systems is an advantage.
Whist this role involves working dayshifts Monday to Friday, there is also a requirement for flexibility to work weekends.
