Job Summary:

The Service Engineer will lead the troubleshooting and resolution of controls software issues on machinery and equipment, providing expert on-site support to customers UK based and worldwide.

This role requires advanced proficiency in PLC programming, particularly with Siemens systems, along with strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to customer service.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the seamless operation of complex industrial systems, while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience in developing and modifying PLC code from pre-written templates, specializing in Siemens systems, as well as Rockwell, Mitsubishi, and Allen Bradley platforms.
  • Conduct comprehensive site commissioning activities, including SAT, post-installation support, and customized customer training sessions.
  • Generate high-quality software designs that meet internal, external, and regulatory requirements, ensuring technical risk is minimized and solutions are delivered accurately.
  • Manage software design solutions and scope changes in alignment with company standard operating procedures, maintaining a strong focus on commercial viability.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the Service Team Lead, customers, and suppliers, providing timely updates on project progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Actively participate in the department's continuous improvement program, identifying opportunities for process optimization and service enhancement.
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen to maximize value for customers and foster long-term partnerships based on trust and reliability.
  • Interpret complex customer and regulatory requirements to develop tailored technical solutions, mitigating risks and ensuring compliance.
  • Compile and analyze performance data relative to departmental KPIs, leveraging insights to drive strategic decision-making and enhance service delivery.
  • Work with the Service Team Lead and other team members to provide technical support and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
  • Utilize expertise in industrial automation software to support customers and aftermarket functions, offering insightful guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Evaluate technical requirements and propose viable solutions, considering resource constraints, scope changes, and potential implications.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven track record as a Service Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, or in a similar customer-facing role within the industrial automation sector.
  • Exceptional proficiency in PLC programming, with extensive experience working with Siemens systems and a strong understanding of other platforms such as Rockwell.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical requirements and develop innovative solutions that meet customer needs while adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Commercial awareness and strategic thinking, with the ability to manage resources effectively and make informed decisions that drive value for both the company and its customers.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to travel frequently and at short notice to customer sites worldwide, often in challenging environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; relevant industry certifications and specialized training in controls software engineering are advantageous.
