We are looking for a highly-motivated, efficient and hard-working International Projects Manager with at least three years’ relevant professional experience to join our team. 


The position is full-time (with a three-month probation period). We can offer an annual gross salary of c. £35,000. A pension contribution is available on satisfactory completion of the probationary period.


Applicants must be residents in the UK and have permission to work in the UK.


Purpose of the job:


(a) To provide efficient, professional and high-quality management for selected consultancy projects.

(b) To identify and develop opportunities for new business for PAI’s consultancy services


Key tasks and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:


Managing consultancy projects

  • Maintaining effective communications about project activities, work plans and progress with PAI Directors and staff, locally engaged staff, Project Team Leaders and consultants, donor agency representatives and clients.
  • Managing the logistics (for example, travel, visas, accommodation, etc.) for selected consultancy projects.
  • Negotiating consultants’ fees and preparing contracts and other documentation.
  • Monitoring selected consultancy project finances and preparing invoices.
  • Proof-reading, editing and formatting consultancy reports for circulation to project stakeholders.


Business development

  • Researching current development policies, proposed activities and funding trends of the main international development organisations
  • Identifying new consultancy opportunities
  • Preparing and submitting technical and financial proposals for consultancy projects.
  • Recruitment and selection of individual consultants from PAI’s network and external sources (e.g. LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Representing PAI at donor, consortium and client meetings and briefing PAI staff about the outcomes.


The International Projects Manager will report to PAI’s Director. 


Person specification


Experience required:

  • At least three years’ project management/administration experience for technical assistance projects overseas financed by international development organisations
  • Experience of supporting the preparation of technical and financial proposals
  • Experience in selection and/or recruitment of consultants
  • Experience of developing new business and marketing consultancy services
  • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to use a range of software applications, e.g. Microsoft Office


Experience desired:

  • Experience of responding to tender requests from international development organisations is an asset
  • Experience of working with people from a range of cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience of working in the public sector or related organizations
  • Experience of working with or for donor agencies


Educational qualifications required:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree but preferably a Master’s Degree in public administration, business administration, international development or similar subjects.
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • High level of numeracy


Personal skills and qualities required:

  • Excellent organizational, management and interpersonal skills
  • Sensitivity to international issues, cultures and backgrounds
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Professional, confident and friendly approach


Personal skills and qualities desired:
