OESD under the Global Manufacturing provides specialized and timely operations and process engineering support to all process technologies operated on both wholly-owned and affiliates’ refining and chemicals operating facilities.. One of OESD’s role is to optimize crude allocation and the operations of global manufacturing facilities in order to maximize revenue, increase profitability, and capture international market opportunities. OESD will also support the LP gatekeeper for wholly owned refineries and the global MPIMS model, and maintains an integrated global planning model which is used for exploring new markets and integration options

As a Linear Programming (LP) Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, updating, and running LP models for existing and new refineries, conducting rigorous simulation and backcasting, performing technical and economic evaluation of projects and opportunities, and providing technical advisory support to refinery management and staff.

Key Responsibilities

You are expected to be able to perform the following:

Ø Develop, update, and run LP models for existing and new refineries using PIMS software, and optimize their operation and configuration to maximize net cash margin. Also use the LP to identify margin improvement opportunities and develop the economic evaluation of these opportunities.

Ø Conduct rigorous simulation and backcasting using Aspen HYSYS software, and compare the simulation results with the actual refinery performance. Identify and analyze the gaps and deviations, and propose corrective and preventive actions to improve the accuracy and reliability of the LP models and the refinery operation.

Ø Perform technical and economic evaluation of projects and opportunities using NPV, IRR, and other financial metrics, and support the decision-making process from screening through closure. Prioritize and rank the projects and opportunities against investment criteria and downstream strategy.

Ø Provide technical advisory support to refinery management and staff on various LP and optimization matters, such as crude selection, product slate, process units, and operational constraints. Communicate the LP results and recommendations effectively and persuasively, and follow up on the implementation and monitoring of the actions.

Ø Coordinate and collaborate with other GOD engineers and analysts, as well as other stakeholders such as refinery engineers, planners, schedulers, and marketers, to ensure alignment and integration of the LP models and objectives.

Ø Validate and calibrate the LP models using historical data and refinery test runs, and ensure the models reflect the current and future operating conditions and constraints. Document the model changes and updates, and communicate them to the relevant stakeholders.

Ø Support the development and maintenance of the global MPIMS model, which integrates all the wholly owned refineries and the global crude and product markets. Use the MPIMS model to optimize the crude allocation and product slate for the global manufacturing network, and identify the optimal integration options and market opportunities.

Ø Participate in the LP gatekeeping process for wholly owned refineries and the global MPIMS model, and ensure the quality and consistency of the LP models and data. Review and approve the LP model changes and updates submitted by the refinery LP engineers, and provide feedback and recommendations as needed.

Ø Conduct training and coaching sessions for the refinery LP engineers and other users of the LP models, and share the best practices and lessons learned. Develop and update the LP manuals and guidelines, and ensure the compliance with the LP standards and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelors degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred.

You will have a minimum of 17 years of experience the Oil & Gas Industry, refining & petrochemical sector (LP modeling, optimization, and economics).

Ø You must have proficiency in PIMS and Aspen HYSYS software, as well as other relevant tools and standards.

Ø You will be able to demonstrate excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. You should be able to apply your knowledge and skills to various LP and optimization issues and scenarios, and communicate effectively and persuasively with different stakeholders and audiences.

Ø You will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the refining processes and economics, as well as the global crude and product markets and trends.

Ø You will have experience in developing and running LP models for complex and integrated refineries, and conducting scenario analysis and sensitivity studies.

Ø You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

Ø You will have strong presentation and reporting skills, and the ability to communicate complex and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
