Purpose


To manage our online presence to increase support for people who are homeless.


Key Tasks


Building an online community of supporters

We want to increase the number of people who engage with our work on-line, with a medium term aim to convert them into regular donors and ambassadors for our work.


  • To create and post compelling and relevant content on a range of channels including facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok,
  • Using online advertising (paid and free) to attract new interest in our work,
  • To produce a regular e-newsletter,
  • To attract signs ups to our e-newsletter, and manage the MailChimp list,
  • To create campaigns on topical issues,
  • To increase the number of on-line donations, and especially sign-ups to regular giving,
  • To link to other campaigns and partner organisations,
  • To organise and/or join-in online events when appropriate,
  • To keep up-to-date with trends and adapt new strategies in response.


Managing our website, supporter journey and integrations

We want to develop our website so that it is relevant and interesting.And to provide a smooth journey for visitors which is fully integrated with our finance, grant-giving, and CRM processes.


  • To manage the continual development of our website (we pay a small retainer to the website designer to provide technical support)
  • To keep the content on the website fresh and interesting,
  • To create and commission new photographs, videos, and design,
  • To ensure that donation forms are easy to use, collect good data, thank the donors in a relevant way and are integrated with Xero and Donorfy,
  • To ensure that our grant application forms are easy to use, and integrated with our data collection and finance systems (currently we use Zapier to map data from gravity forms to Xero)


Managing search optimisation and analytics

We want to increase the number of people who find us on-line, and to understand how they come to us, and what they want from us.


  • To manage the on-going work of our SEO agency (Fueld),
  • To establish useful website and social media analytics,
  • To monitor and report on on-line activities and adapt strategies in response.


Assisting with the distribution of grants to people who are homeless

We consider applications and disburse funds on a weekly basis (usually 11am on a Thursday).


  • To attend the weekly grant meeting (virtually) and play a role in the approval, recording and distribution of grants as required.
  • To use the stories of the people we help to raise funds and thank supporters,
  • From time to time, to visit the schemes run by our service partners, and meet the people we support.


Other duties

  • As part of a small team, to perform any other duties which may be reasonably required by the executive director or board of trustees, for example assisting at occasional events.


KEY RELATIONSHIPS

This a flexible and creative role within a small team (of five).


The role has a very broad remit. The postholder will need to prioritise audiences and opportunities, and work closely with other team members to ensure that all materials and communications work together for maximum effect.


The role reports to the executive director who will provide weekly catch-up calls and support with the management of key relationships and creating campaigns and content for funding applications as required.


The postholder will work closely with the fundraising manager who is responsible for raising funds from churches, companies, and trusts.


They will also work closely with the finance and data manager who oversees the CRM database, the collection of feedback and the processing of donations and grants.


And with our management accountant who ensures that our income is recorded and spent correctly.


The postholder will also work closely with trustees, in particular those on the fundraising committee, in order to maximise the opportunities afforded by their connections and experience.

All members of the team contribute to the development of the Business Strategy, and we have a weekly team catch-up after the grants meeting to share how we are doing on implementing it.


Person Specification

Essential

  • Passionate about helping people who are homeless
  • Considerable experience in on-line marketing/fundraising
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent design and content-creation skills
  • A love of all kinds of information technology from social media platforms to databases
  • A desire to create and innovate, and keep abreast of the latest news and trends
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload
  • Sympathetic to the aims of the Church Homeless Charity and its Christian ethos

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the homelessness sector
  • Experience of using a CRM database


Other information

The role is remote with face-to-face meetings six times a year, in locations across England.

Role can be four or five days (28 or 35 hours) a week, Monday to Friday.
