About the Role:

As our Lead Actuary, you'll be crucial in both actuarial management and product development. You will oversee the actuarial review and testing of our insurance products, drive the development of these products, collaborate closely with underwriting functions, and support compliance with regulatory standards. This unique position combines technical actuarial expertise with strategic insurance management, positioning you as a key contributor to our growth and success.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide actuarial input into the design of the testing framework for a new tool to calculate member options.
  • Develop an independent actuarial testing and controls framework for a system in development.
  • Apply actuarial techniques to ensure cost neutrality of options, including GMP equalisation.
  • Conduct annual reviews of actuarial methods and manage individuals assisting in testing and review work.
  • Ensure fair value and accuracy in pricing member options, and identify any risk of customer harm.
  • Evaluate changes in assumptions and adjust pricing to reflect these changes, ensuring compliance with governance procedures.
  • Develop insurance products with wider team with key strategic and actuarial analysis
  • Support our underwriting & pricing strategy in collaboration with the wonder team with sound actuarial output
  • Ensure our pricing model meets commercial GWP targets and target loss ratios.
  • Build and oversee a customer-centric claims function, incorporating advanced technologies.
  • Take ownership of compliance, conduct, and regulatory agendas, working with outsourced compliance officers.
  • Identify regulatory risks and prepare the company for increased regulatory oversight.
  • Manage onboarding and ongoing relationships of carrier partners.


What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified Actuary with strong knowledge of climate/carbon insurance products.
  • Extensive experience in technical actuarial roles and/or system development.
  • Solid experience building insurance products and knowledge of licensing and distribution.
  • Established networker within the insurance sector.
  • Keen problem-solver with the ability to devise creative solutions.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and effective in a dynamic start-up environment.
  • Coding experience, ideally in Python, is preferred but not essential.


Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience in a start-up environment or an understanding of the challenges of building a new business.


Compensation/Benefits

  • Salary: £55k-65k (equity and salary ratio negotiable)
  • Hybrid working (team meets once a week in London)
