Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEMH Provisions)

Location: Eastleigh, Hampshire

Contract Type: Long-term, Temp to Perm

Hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am - 3.30pm

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join SEMH provisions, we currently have multiple vacancies in different schools across Hampshire. The successful candidate will work closely with secondary-aged pupils who have behavioural and SEMH needs, providing essential support to help them thrive both academically and personally. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by offering 1:1 support, small group support, behaviour management, and mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1:1 and Small Group Support: Work directly with pupils to provide tailored support that meets their individual needs, both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Behaviour Support and Mentoring: Assist pupils in developing positive behaviours, social skills, and self-esteem through mentoring and consistent support.
  • Academic Support: Help pupils engage with the curriculum, offering support within lessons across various subjects to boost their academic achievement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and other professionals to implement individual education plans and behaviour management strategies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on pupil progress, highlighting any areas of concern to the relevant staff members.
  • Building Positive Relationships: Develop and maintain trusting, supportive relationships with pupils to create a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and welfare of pupils at all times, following school safeguarding policies and procedures.

Person Specification

  • Experience: Previous experience working with young people is essential. We welcome applicants from candidates with experience in schools, residential settings, care environments, and youth work.
  • Qualifications: Minimum GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent. Additional qualifications related to child development, mental health, or special education needs would be an advantage.
  • Skills and Qualities:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
    • Effective behaviour management techniques.
    • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with young people.
    • Team player who can work collaboratively with staff members and external professionals.
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt to changing needs.
