Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for 4x Family Support Workers for a domestic violence specialist. It is an occupational requirement that applications are open to WOMEN ONLY, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010.

A Domestic Violence specialist, you will work pro-actively with women and children, offering risk assessed, strength based, and needs led support. You will work alongside each family, throughout their journey, agreeing individual and/or family safety support plans as well as advocating on the family’s behalf to achieve safe and independent living. This role is a contracted position until March 2025. The salary for this role is £26,181.00 pro rata.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Provide high quality case work support to survivors of domestic violence. You will carry a varied case load, working with each woman and her children throughout their journey, managing and prioritising cases effectively.
  • Advocate on behalf of women and children with external agencies including where appropriate MARAC, courts, housing, children and adult social care, health and other voluntary and community organisations.
  • Attend case review and team meetings and contribute to effective team communication.
  • Keep and maintain accurate and confidential records of all work undertaken.
  • Contribute to the delivery of service outcomes and use clear and coherent targets and monitoring systems to provide evidence that Survivor outcomes are met.
  • Ensure effective implementation of Juno’s Equality and Diversity policies and awareness and integration of an equalities and human rights agenda in all your work.
  • Contribute to Survivor feedback and voice in service delivery and service development.
  • Ensure service standards are maintained and all policies and procedures complied with.
  • Carry a varied caseload, working with each survivor, managing and prioritising cases effectively
  • Work with the whole family (where appropriate) to agree risk and needs assessments and develop and implement personal safety plans
  • Carry out risk assessments with the child/young person including the Teen DASH RIC and refer to the MARAC where an assessment is high risk
  • Advocate on behalf of the child/young person to other agencies and/or support survivors to self-advocate, linking them to appropriate agencies and community-based support.
  • Plan and provide creative sessions which include understanding Domestic Abuse and address the health and emotional wellbeing of the child/young person
  • Plan, create and deliver therapeutic group work programmes for children and their mothers working closely with internal services and external agencies to ensure safety and well-being of attendees
  • Support the women accommodated within Juno accommodation services to meet the needs of their children, offering information and practical support including parenting, addressing challenging behaviour from their children, registering with appropriate agencies including nurseries/ schools and attendance at meetings.
  • Attend case review and team meetings and contribute to effective team communication.
  • Keep and maintain accurate and confidential records of all work undertaken.

Person Specification

  • Understanding of a Women’s refuge and how to keep the accommodation confidential and safe for women and children.
  • Understanding of the practical, emotional, social and economic issues facing children and young people of different ages and their mothers/carers who are affected by Domestic Violence/Abuse (DVA)
  • Understanding of the differing forms and impacts of DVA across the communities we serve
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding for adults and children
  • An understanding of the issues faced by people who are affected by homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and offending, and knowledge of local services and agencies that can offer assistance in these matters.
  • Ability to work sensitively and in a non-judgemental manner with vulnerable survivors
  • Ability to record precise information and produce accurate and detailed case notes
  • Ability to use or learn to use IT systems and software including Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams) including to process store and share sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to manage own caseload, working under pressure and prioritising workload
  • Ability to work in a team and in multiagency partnerships
  • Excellent communication skills
