Job Purpose:
The SMCC (Service Management Command Centre) manager is responsible for the delivery of a safe, reliable operational engineered service for NATS and external business customers. The SMCC team provides the first line fix opportunity for any operational incidents.

You will be accountable for the leadership, management, and development of all H24/7 engineers in the Service Management team in the SMCC. You will also liaise with the relevant Service Delivery Managers to ensure that changes or implementations of new and modified services are delivered considering the SMCC and its operating model. The SMCC Manager will be based at our Air Traffic Control Centre, in Prestwick.

Other duties Include:
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure all systems are maintained and supported to deliver current and future business needs
  • Ensure ATM Engineered Systems managed by H24 are operated and maintained to the SMCC Centre operational and regulatory safety requirements (i.e. Safety cases)
  • Foster an open and approachable environment within SMCC, where individuals feel able to raise any potential safety concerns or issues
  • Provide clear leadership for the SMCC team to inspire people to work together effectively. Recruit, coach, develop and manage team performance to deliver the Technical Service
  • Customer Support - Act as unit Engineering focal point in absence of the Head of SMCC or Head of Service Operations
  • Act as NATS Major Incident Manager and the first point of contact for all technical operation escalations. This role is formally rostered and formal training and competency will be given prior to commencement
  • This role will be required to support out of hours Service requests in direct support of the technical operation. These requests may include, but not be limited to, direct support for our H24/Airport team, additional incident management support and business priorities
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Applicants are expected to have Professional Engineering Qualification to Degree level or directly relevant engineering experience and demonstrated ability to carry out engineering and managerial work to this level
  • Relevant engineering experience is desirable, or demonstrable experience of leading a safety critical operational environment
  • A comprehensive knowledge of tactical ATC Operations, in particular the relationships, dependencies on ATM engineering systems, and subsequent impact therefore of interruptions or loss of key systems is desirable
  • Proven leadership skills, able to lead and direct staff effectively in achieving safety and business objectives consistently. Experience of leading a team through significant change is also highly desirable
  • Must have highly effective communication skills, written and oral, at the range and level of human interfaces the role demands and be able to present information to management, peers, customers, and suppliers
