A leading provider of innovative laser systems to help people in various global markets, including but not limited to renewables, microelectronics, research, life science, automotive, and medicine.We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Purchasing Manager to join our purchasing team within the wider Materials team. Reporting to the Senior Materials Manager, the role is for a Purchasing Manager to plan and implement activities related to the procurement of materials, parts, components and equipment.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.Directs and provides leadership in all purchasing activities to accomplish the company’s strategic goal to continuously improve in cost, quality, supplier relations, and strategic sourcing.Reviews and approves purchases.Develops policies and procedures for the local operation of procurement activities and works with Strategic Purchasing regarding global suppliers.Monitors the cost, schedule and performance aspects of major subcontracts.Coordinates purchasing activities with Engineering and Manufacturing departments to maintain inventories at planned levels.Acts as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.May assist with the establishment and maintenance of the production control system.Establishes standard costs for assigned purchase items in accordance with defined company processes/protocols.Supports the site’s Buyers on supply/price escalations, receipt discrepancies and local improvement initiatives.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEDegree in a technical or business field or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through relevant experience and training.Previous experience within the Supply Chain profession.Knowledge of plant manufacturing processes, material and production control, and material specifications.Some knowledge of P&L and cash flow statements and ability to read D&B reports.Worldwide knowledge of business trends and impacts to supply chain (ex., Raw material consumption due to growth in China, ROHs, low-cost country trends).Experience in contract reviews.Strong knowledge of MRP systems (knowledge of Oracle would be an advantage).Highly proficient at MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.Strong working knowledge of Product Life Cycle and Development process.Strong project management skills, including team building and the ability to manage multiple tasks.Negotiation and supply base relations skills.Strong decision-making skills.A proven track record of leading and developing a team.Strong communication skills and ability to communicate verbally and electronically with team members and leaders of supported organizations.Ability to build relationships with team members at all levels within a culturally diverse workforce.Ability to drive change initiatives within a culturally diverse workforce.
