Mechanical Engineering Intern

Spring 2026 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham NC. Expected program dates are January 20 April 24 2026. Anticipated working hours will be 20-to-30 per week around class schedules. Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager. Note: Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future. Therefore in order to be considered for this position you must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work closely with Hardware Development Manufacturing Test and our Customers to support our growing product line of Point of Sale solutions in a fast-paced highly technical and continually evolving business. The ideal candidate will have some background working in the Retail Industry while developing their professional expertise in their area of specialization.Areas of Expertise & Special Skills:Assure that new equipment will safely comply with performance criteria for use with computer software programs and make any necessary hardware modifications to fix mistakes and other issues.Work with interdisciplinary design teams such as those for hardware mechanical and softwareDesign new hardware using SolidWorksPractical experience with a variety of hardware devices.Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.Self-driven with exceptional analytical and critiquing skillsStrong ability to solve problemsAttention to detailAbility to function a member of a small team.Practical experience with a variety of hardware devicesMajor Responsibilities:Work with team to create/modify designs for parts and assembliesWork with team to update part drawings or specificationsWork with team on defects that arise from the designAssist in building prototypes or early unitsLearn about how our products go from an idea to a fully-fledged productPerform other tasks as assignedThe candidate will be working on drawings and designs for a next generation point of sale product.This role involves hands on designing using SolidWorks.About the Company:Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions Inc. is a dynamic billion-dollar global company based in Research Triangle Park NC providing retail store solutions to your favorite brands.
