Design Engineer

Echelon Engineers are supporting a long-established engineering business in the West Midlands. The company designs and manufactures bespoke special purpose machinery for a range of industrial customers. You will join a hands-on engineering team that values practical thinking, reliability and strong collaboration across design, build and service. The Role This is a full lifecycle Mechanical Design Engineer role working on bespoke machinery projects from concept through to manufacture. You will be involved in creating new designs, updating existing machinery and supporting engineering activity across multiple departments. Key Responsibilities * Design assemblies, mechanisms and custom components using 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks. * Produce accurate 2D drawings, BOMs and manufacturing packs for production teams. * Develop prototypes, carry out tolerance and interference checks and support testing where required. * Work closely with electrical, controls and service teams to deliver integrated and maintainable machine designs. * Contribute to design for manufacture and design for assembly reviews to reduce cost and build time. * Support quotations with technical input, component suggestions and basic costings. * Troubleshoot engineering issues during build and provide practical solutions, including occasional site support when needed.
