About Solar Options for Schools

We are a social impact driven company with a mission to help society reach net zero faster by providing solar power and energy education to schools.

We believe that schools have a role to pay to help us decarbonise faster. So, we fund energy and climate education opportunities using the sun. To that end, we help fund, develop, install and maintain solar PV systems on schools, and provide energy and carbon education to students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

We currently look after over two hundred solar school systems internationally and are working to encourage thousands more.

Our vision is to develop software, funding and education to enable up to 2,000 schools a week to go solar globally. Our website and mobile app allow students to learn about energy, carbon, and climate change and they can even develop a solar project themselves on their own schools.

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate individual with excellent communication skills and experience working with children to support the development and delivery of our science-based education programme.

You will have a polite, caring and adaptive attitude, combined with creativity and excellent listening skills that will enable you to think on your feet and respond to the needs of both primary and secondary aged students.

You will have a keen interest in sustainability and possibly some experience of climate education, as well as possessing a good basic understanding of carbon and renewable energy, especially solar PV, although this is not essential as training will be provided.

Your core initial duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Follow Safeguarding procedures to deliver the Solar for Schools science-based education programme to secondary and/or primary aged children through assemblies and workshops.
  • Follow Health & Safety guidelines to carry out annual visual inspections of schools’ solar PV systems, including the recording of key information about the systems’ performance and possibly flying a drone (license permitting) over schools to take images of panels.
  • Proactively liaise with schools to encourage them to participate in our education programme.
  • Deal with questions and further information requests from schools related to the education programme or any other aspect of Solar for Schools’ services.
  • Always keep the CRM (Customer Relations Management) software up to date with school communications, contact details, and potential opportunities.
  • Maintain good relationships with school personnel to better understand and achieve their needs.
  • Work with the Education Team on actively promoting and developing Solar for Schools’ education software and resources.
  • Attend internal and customer facing meetings via Teams or in person where required.
  • Attend internal and external events where required.
  • Act as an ambassador for Solar for Schools.
