About the role:

The Property Design Services (PDS) section of Powys County Council provides a property-related professional consultancy service for the Council, including Architectural, Building Surveying, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Energy and Project Management disciplines. PDS is recruiting an Energy Engineer to provide specialist technical support within the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering team in which the post holder will work on a range of new-build and refurbishment projects, as well as drive
operational change across the council estate.

About you:

  • You will have a technical background with a good understanding of energy related technologies, coupled with an interest in sustainability and a desire to play a leading role in the transition to net zero carbon.
  • You will enjoy interactive and creative problem solving, grounded in real life application, and will be keen to learn develop your expertise.
  • You will have good communication and IT skills.
  • You will enjoy working within a team environment, alongside experienced professionals, clients and stakeholders from across the Council.

What you will do:

  • Provide specialist technical advice and support to officers and stakeholders, particularly the schools estate, in support of the Council’s energy and carbon reduction strategies.
  • Work within the Energy and Engineering team, either as a project lead on individual energy and carbon reduction projects up to £500k or as part of the wider Property Design Services team on larger projects.
  • Act in a client facing role within the council, developing commissions from colleagues up to Heads of Service, and preparing project briefs for enactment.
  • Undertake site surveys to complete energy audits and reports to promote energy conservation, and influence investment and/or changes in building operation across the Council estate.
  • Work as a specialist technical advisor within wider design teams on new build projects to promote good practice in energy conservation and support the transition to net zero carbon.
  • Undertake post occupancy evaluations of newly completed projects with colleagues to record and monitor building performance in use and drive operational improvements.
