Requirements for the Occupational Therapist role:
  • Diploma or a degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Minimum 6 months experience as an Occupational Therapist

About the Service:

This Mental Health Hospital offers acute mental health services to men and women. Their approach is recovery focused and they support patients to manage their mental health, as well as preparing to lead independent lives.

The role of an Occupational Therapist within the service involves:
  • Managing and prioritising a caseload of services users
  • Completing the Occupational Therapy process and using evidence-based principles and clinical reasoning to assess and formulate a treatment plan
  • Addressing occupational performance and skill deficits
  • Developing programmes of care, ensuring adequate and detailed handovers of programmes are distributed to rehabilitation support workers and therapy assistants
  • Delegating tasks appropriately according to competence
  • Carrying out detailed risk assessments and ensure that these are regularly reviewed and updated
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate documentation
  • Working with service users, carers and outside agencies in a sensitive and flexible manner, considering the most appropriate environment for assessments and interventions
  • Providing intervention and advice on social and lifestyle needs
