PURPOSE OF POST: Supporting teachers in the Construction Department in all aspects of teaching. Enhancing learning opportunities for pupils, bringing knowledge and practical experience gained through working with pupils.

ORGANISATION CHART: Headteacher/Head of Department | Construction Technician

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Under the direction of the class teacher, support the teaching and learning of individual or groups of pupils, using support strategies appropriate to the needs of pupils, providing feedback and liaising over problems. Prepare, maintain and deploy appropriate learning aids, materials and equipment. 2. Support the Construction department ensuring that the class teacher is able to deliver the planned curriculum. This will involve some heavy lifting and working outside during certain sessions.Ensure that the resources are kept in a safe and tidy condition at all times. Assist with the safe and hygienic storage of all equipment used by students and staff used in the department and that all tools and equipment are stored and used in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and good practice.Contribute to the order and cleanliness of the classroom environment. This may involve tidying the class, cleaning up spills, etc.Monitor and control supplies of stock and inform the Head of Department when further supplies are needed. Check goods are delivered against orders and carry out inventory checks on a regular basis.Contribute to the care, health and welfare of pupils in accordance with the school's health and safety and related policies.As required, contribute to specific aspects of teaching, learning and personal development, for example school visits, etc.Ensure the safe disposal of harmful chemicals and detrimental environment products. Dispose of or recycle such products in line with environmental and landfill regulations.

Flexibility

All school staff may be required, from time to time, to work as directed by the Headteacher to provide cover for administrative functions within the school. This may include exam invigilation, student supervision and other duties not normally detailed elsewhere within their job description.

CONTEXT:

The construction curriculum will be taught to groups of pupils from the host school and also to groups who will come in from other schools in Luton. All support staff are part of a whole school team. They are required to support the values and ethos of the school and school priorities as defined in the School Improvement Plan. This will mean focussing on the needs of colleagues, parents and pupils and being flexible in a busy pressurised environment. A Teaching Assistant at this level could be deployed to support pupils for whom English is an additional language, to support named children with special educational needs (behavioural or medical), or generally. Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. Therefore, it is essential in making your application you disclose whether you have any pending charges, convictions, bindovers or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders 1974 (Exemptions) (Amendments) Order 1986. Therefore, applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are 'spent' under the provision of the Act, and, in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority. Physical Effort:

The job is likely to involve some heavy lifting of equipment on a regular basis. Training will be provided.

Working Environment:

Due to the nature of the role there will be a requirement to wear PPE at times. There will be also requirement to work outside for periods of time.
