We are based in Oxfordshire, the centre of Cryogenics R&D in the UK, ideally located for developing our unique Clean ‘Green’ liquid Hydrogen technology. LUX is currently developing the technology to ultimately supply our customers with Clean liquid Hydrogen on-site-on-demand.We are scaling at pace, raising significant grant funding and private investment. If you feel this could be the journey for you, we would like to hear from you.RoleAs a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be leading LUX’s core technology design and development on a range of projects and tasks. You will be working with other team members such as project managers, and senior leadership, in addition to external suppliers, to ensure that projects are delivered successfully. The role requires applying your skills and knowledge across a broad range of problems and challenges, sourcing alternative solutions independently and efficientlyResponsibilities‘Cradle to grave’ Design and development of mechanical systems and components for various projectsCreate detailed parts/models and assemblies, using CAD software (Siemens NX)Ensure Design for Manufacture is implemented into design solutionsProduce engineering drawings working to BS8888 following engineering best practiceConduct tolerance stack analyses for components and assembliesCollaborate with team members and external suppliers to ensure design specifications are metPerform system design and integration, including the selection of appropriate components and materialsCreate P&IDs for various test rigs, sub-systems, systems and testing purposesPerform basic hand calculations to support design process e.g. bending moments, hoop/axial stress etcConduct and support risk assessments for engineering development and testing needsPerform basic simulations to assess design integrity and performance assessments, such as low-level FEA to verifyhand-calculations etcConduct testing and validation of components to ensure functionality and reliability of mechanical designsProvide technical support and guidance to junior designers and engineersIdentify and resolve design issues using first principles thinkingEssential Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in an engineering or related STEM discipline, OR, additional 2+ years of professional experience in design engineering rolesMinimum 5 years relevant experience in mechanical design engineering rolesExperienced with Siemens NX CAD software, including part & assembly design, and draftingAbility to create detailed schematics and technical drawingsStrong mechanical knowledge and understanding of engineering principlesExtensive experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and performing tolerance stack analysisExperience with NX surfacingNote you must have a valid UK driving licence and a suitable vehicle for business-related travel as part of the rolePreferred Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceMasters degree or higher in Mechanical engineering or related STEM discipline7+ years’ relevant experience in mechanical design engineering rolesExpert user in Siemens NX CAD software, including part & assembly design, surfacing, and draftingExperience in pressure vessel sizing, design and development projectsExperience in valve design, selection, and development projectsProficient in one or more coding languagesExcellent problem-solving skills with a focus on first principles thinkingStrong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and external suppliersExperienced in designing a diverse range of mechanical components, systems and projectsFamiliar with Hydrogen related design principles and engineeringExperienced/knowledgeable in advanced manufacturing processes such as Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)Experience in cryogenic engineering projectsStrong evidence of technical problem solvingApplicationTo apply, please email your covering lettering and CV to careers@luxindustries.co.uk and ensure to provide the details and contact information for two professional references in your application.
