SENCO – Primary Location: Barnet Primary School, Barnet Contract: Permanent Start date: January 2026 Role overview A Barnet Primary School is seeking an experienced and committed SENCO to lead and coordinate provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities across the school. The post holder will be a qualified teacher with the skills, knowledge, and strategic vision to ensure that all pupils with SEND receive high-quality support and make strong progress. Key responsibilities • Lead on the strategic development and day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND policy and provision. • Identify pupils with SEND, coordinate assessments, and ensure appropriate support and interventions are in place. • Oversee the SEND register, maintain accurate records, and monitor the progress and outcomes of pupils with SEND. • Work closely with class teachers to advise on differentiation, classroom strategies, and high-quality teaching for pupils with additional needs. • Plan, implement, and review individual support plans and targets in collaboration with staff, parents, and external professionals. • Liaise with parents and carers, ensuring regular communication about pupils’ needs, support, and progress. • Coordinate and work with external agencies such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other support services. • Provide training, guidance, and support to staff on SEND practice, including leading CPD sessions where appropriate. • Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation, improvement planning, and reporting to senior leaders and governors on SEND. • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and all relevant legislation and statutory guidance. Person specification • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and substantial primary teaching experience. • National Award for SEN Coordination (or a commitment to working towards it, if appropriate for the setting). • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation. • Proven experience of working effectively with pupils with a range of SEND within a primary setting. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, staff, and external professionals. • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload. • A reflective practitioner with a commitment to inclusion, equality of opportunity, and continuous school improvement. • A collaborative team player who can both lead and work as part of a wider staff team.
