Mechanical Fitters MateA Water Industry Mechanical Fitter installs maintains and repairs mechanical systems within water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes working on pipes pumps and valves in accordance with technical drawings specifications and safety regulations.Key duties include carrying out routine maintenance diagnosing faults and undertaking refurbishments often in challenging environments such as confined spaces and at heights. The Mate supports the Fitter in all aspects of the role ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.Key Responsibilities:Installation & Fabrication: Assist with install and assemble pipes valves pumps and other mechanical equipment for water and wastewater systems potentially fabricating components as needed. Maintenance & Repair: Assist with performing routine maintenance on machinery including pumps gearboxes and compressors and conduct repairs and refurbishments. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work complies with company and industry health and safety regulations particularly in potentially hazardous environments like confined spaces. Teamwork: Collaborate with engineers and project managers to meet specifications and work as part of a mechanical and electrical team. Essential Skills & QualificationsTechnical Proficiency: Ability to follow instruction from the Fitter. Tool Usage: Competence in using a range of hand and power tools for assembly and maintenance tasks. Mechanical Knowledge: Some experience with various mechanical systems including pumps pipework and fluid power equipment. Safety & Certifications: CSCS or equivalent safety card. Knowledge or training in water hygiene. Confined space training.Soft Skills:Strong communication skills the ability to work collaboratively and a good level of physical fitness. Typical Work EnvironmentsConstruction Sites: Working on new installations and upgrades of water supply and wastewater pipelines. Treatment Plants & Facilities: Performing maintenance and repairs on equipment within water and wastewater treatment facilities. Hazardous Locations: Operating in confined spaces at height or other challenging environments as part of the job.
