Oxford, United Kingdom Milvus Advanced Full time

Background and Overview

Milvus Advanced, Ltd. is at the forefront of technological innovation, focusing on developing nanoalloys as substitutes for high-value metals essential for decarbonization efforts, such as platinum, iridium, and cobalt. Our catalysts, besides being cost-effective and abundant, aim to mitigate the environmental and ethical impacts associated with traditional mining practices. Our primary applications centre around advancing the hydrogen economy, facilitating low-cost clean hydrogen production through water electrolysis and efficient utilization of hydrogen in fuel cells. We are dedicated to assembling a diverse and collaborative team committed to ensuring an affordable, scalable, and reliable supply of critical global commodities necessary for the clean energy transition.

Position Overview

Milvus Advanced is seeking a talented and motivated master’s student in Chemistry to join our Research & Development (R&D) team as an inorganic Chemistry Research Intern. As a vital member of our dynamic and collaborative environment, you will have the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge nanomaterials and contribute to the development of innovative chemical processes aimed at providing sustainable solutions for crucial global commodities.

This internship offers a unique chance to work on a ground-breaking project poised to revolutionise clean energy production and utilisation. Under the guidance of our scientists, you will participate in designing and refining chemical processes, exploring nanomaterial synthesis techniques, and contributing to the transition from laboratory-scale to pilot-scale and industrial-scale production.

If you are currently pursuing a master's degree in chemistry i.e., organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry or physical chemistry, we encourage you to apply. While prior industrial/process scale-up experience is not mandatory, a solid understanding of colloidal synthesis methods and d-transition metallic nanoparticles synthesis would be advantageous. Additionally, a passion for negative emissions technologies, critical raw materials, carbon neutrality, and hydrogen technologies, such as fuel cells and electrolysers, is highly desired.

At Milvus Advanced, we prioritise diversity, collaboration, and creativity. We seek an intern who is pragmatic, enthusiastic, and possesses excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a master's degree in chemistry
  • Familiarity with colloidal synthesis methods and d-transition metallic nanoparticles synthesis is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience of inorganic syntheses methods and use of a Schlenk line technique
  • Demonstrated interest in negative emissions technologies, critical raw materials, carbon neutrality, and hydrogen technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct theoretical and experimental investigations.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication, writing, and reporting skills.

What we value

At Milvus Advanced, we are dedicated to fostering a sustainable future and driving technological innovation. We are committed to diversity, collaboration, and continuous learning, and we strive to create a supportive and inclusive work environment for all our team members.

What we offer

Internship stipend based on experience.

How to Apply

We recognize the importance of diversity and encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply. To be considered for this internship opportunity, please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest and qualifications to info@milvusadvanced.co.uk.
